Frank
Never had a .17 HMR, but have a .22lr, amazing what it can do, cheap, accurate and silent. Frank.
Graham M
Had both but just got rid of the .17hmr and bought a .22 Hornet. More reliable on foxes. As for the .22rf......indispensable. G.M.
kipper
I have just got a .22lr and I think it is grate for rabbits and small game vermin, I have never had a .17but from what I hear about them being loud Im not sure if I would want a .17 at this point. No doubt they have there advantages over the .22lr as well though. Kipper

Dave-G
Have both - one farmer won't have .22rf on his land. Most other permissions would not be suitable for the HMR noise due to proximity of neighbours.
sussex lad
I have both for now. But the .17 hasn't been out the cupboard for gods knows how long I just don't have use for it If i want to bunny bash you cant beat the .22 good to 80 yards and near silent Any over .22 range get slotted with the .223, i figure if i'm gonna make a noise it might aswell be a proper noise If i want to charlie bash then its got to be the .223 And i cant remember when last charlie came into .17 range I think the .17 going to have to go very soon
Peter_HMR
.17gets used the most .22 was bought for cheap paper punching and generally as a fun gun
luckytrigger
Ive got both. The .17 seems to get used most of the time but sat evening i took the 22lr out for a change. I'd forgotton how quiet it was
rabbithunter
I,ve got both ,but since i got the 17hmr my 22 bolt action rifle that i use for day time is just sat in the cabinet .Think it time for a 1 for 1 with something a little bit bigger

Dunkield
Interesting thread, I don't have .17 so didn't vote. I bet a year or so ago it would have been different, when the all the hype about the .17 was at it's peak - it seems to have settled down now with people realising the old .22 still has it's place
conor
just got my hmr a few months back. wont be getting rid! very accurate and flat shooting. id say it depends what you want from your rifle. hmr is far from loud. have shot grey cows and magpies which are both cute whores and their mates stayed arounds to be shot too!
