Nice Night For Losing Your Ticket - Denshaw Sunday 12 Oct

Recommended Posts

Anyone know the two chaps who were out with a HV rifle here around 4:30 to 5PM taking pot-shots over dog-walkers and a main road?

Seem a hue and cry was raised, and the two really miffed local dog walkers, unused to supersonic cracks just above their heads, who got a very good clear look at the two of you, the rifle with the big can on it. Landowner was interested to know who they were.

If you know who this was, they need words...the GMP helicopter would be on your heads in under 3 minutes.

get a grip.

How about the shockwave from supersonic crack 16 feet above your head, then see 2 chaps standing up out of the moor grass, with a suppressed bolt-action pointing in their direction, who then proceeded to scram once they realized they had been clocked shooting Section-1 in a Public place over the heads of the public and over a main road... it wasn't on, the Landowners are miffed. What makes it in order?

It sounds like you weren't there yourself - but 16 feet above the head eh?

How many times do we hear about someone shooting completely legal getting a totally unwarranted sensationalist reaction from non shooting alarmist walkers who really like to dress it up?

Overheard in my local Post Office last week:

"We was night fishing...but he said don't go in that entrance...anyway nothing biting...so got up from the chair...heard a crack and something hit the ground by my foot...then Dave says "don't move there's a red dot on you"...I ******* ran off, like...Dave says later a land rover went flying off after me, but I never saw it"

16 ft " very accurate measure " I have suffered myself of dog walkers over reacting . 6 armed officers 2 dogs and the helicopter , all for walking along a footpath with my gun in case heading for the marsh to which I have a right to be. More than likely they made something out of nowt. Can't see why you feel the need to head hunt on here say . If the police were called let them investigate .

I have the helicopter out to I just give them a wave and carry on what im doing the other week was shooting pigeons and had a guy came out of a near by house saying my shot was hitting is roof and falling down his chimney whichumy hide was facing away from his house and I take out a meter measurering wheel with me from my hide to his house was 583meters in a straight line as we both meausred it and I said politely that maybe a bit far for my size 7.5shot to travell as most clay ranges have a 300 meter safety fall out for shot but I will pack up and go at 4 yhis was at half past2 the ture reason for the guy coming out is that he haves a hosres in the next field next to him if he said this in the first place I wouldn't bat a eye lid and stop at that instant just like how they make up stuff

how would you know it was 16 foot is a good question. Judging on the speed of a bullet if they were sub 100 yards the bullet would have gone by them as quick as they heard the bang. Can't honestly see how a shockwave from a supersonic bullet at 16 foot high would make them realise it's 16 foot height...

I'm not saying that it didn't happen, and I totally agree that if they shouldn't be there at all then the full weight of the law should come down on them if/when caught regardless of if they were shooting near people or not which is quite hard to prove.

havent we all had helicopters over our heads?

i had one ages ago hover over me for more than 1/2hr. wouldnt like to see how much that cost.

i would hate to think what it cost the taxpayer that night, thing is they were absolutely clueless , when asked what I was doing there I replied wildfowling to which they asked what's that, ( shooting ducks) I said, I then had to take them out to where I was told to drop my ( weapon) and explain that shooting wildfowl with a shotgun was the norm and would not blow them to bits like the movies. They then had the cheek to suggest I call it a day, the which I replied I'll carry on thankyou very much unless you'd like to arrest me . I know it's not there fault but some armed response guys really haven't a clue. They seriously need educating when it comes to country pursuits and the shooting world in general as a lot of their calls seem to be for us.

A bit presumptuous to accuse members of this forum.

+1

Thats how its reads to me. Tbh the whole thing from the incident. To the witness reports sound a bit iffy to me .

Me too!

I was zeroing my rifle at the time. I put it in the car and waited for the response to arrive. It never did and they just flew off
