ChrisAsh
After a while on all gun forums, someone ask's what gun should I buy, and the normal top three answers are always Beretta, Browning or meroko and followed by something about resale price I guess for most people there guns range from about £750 to £2000 and some a lot more. Thats fine but resale values areseldom looked at as a percentage of the new price, but certanly the top three do seem winners So how many people ever consider resale prices on there new cars which cost a hell of a lot more than there guns (or at least for most ofus)
Gordon R
We are on cars 105 and 107 at the moment. Never, ever considered resale value of a car. That said, I never considered resale value of a gun which I would be using. Bought the odd one because it was a bargain.
bostonmick
I believe it is only common sense to consider a resale price of guns if you are a serial buyer.I have some guns that will never leave me so no worries with those.then I have some I know will not stay with me long term.so when i buy those I take into account what I am liable to recoup. HDAV
It's mostly vanity and self justification which is perpetuated , resale value has more to do than basic economics its a marker of quality and longevity in many people's eyes
bostonmick
Believe me there is no vanity in paying 5 or 6k for a gun and then look forward to getting around 4-5back if you want to move it on after a while. figgy
Nearly all cars are not an investment but a way of burning through money,so best not to look at them too hard for resale. That said some like basic spec defenders are very good on resale. Guns retain a good percentage of their value if kept long enough as prices keep going up. Some guns make their initial purchase price but money is not the same value as was when bought. Still good value. Guns like cars are best bought in good second hand condition. viking
My first new gun was bought 7 years ago, a beretta 686E for £1000 from kellbrook shooting lodge, you will probably pay that price now for a decent second hand one. And I think that will be the case of most guns nowadays from the top 3-4 players, As said, a good second hand gun will work every time for me. ditchman
i will never buy a new gun for 2 reasons the money you lose 10 secs after buying it if anything is going to go wrong it is usually when it is new i like to take my time and look and feel several guns of the same model that have been used before i make my choice..........i just have 3 guns now auto...sxs....b/a 410......in the past i was very much a gun tart.........i used to buy dirty guns ..but sound, and clean them up....and generally when i got fed up with them and sold them on, i never used to lose money............ my mate is totally opposite and will never buy a second hand gun...........he HATES the idea that someone has touched and used it before him.......... brett1985
i bought my 1301 new, and its on section 1. to be fair, i took an educated decision when buying it and went for new. (it was a bargain price) because these are only available on section 1, they will hold their money a little better than a gun that is available on both SGC and FAC, plus, i dont actually intend on selling it. in all honesty, if i did sell it i could probably get more than i paid, or at least break even. but i think that this is probably the only gun i will ever buy new. i certainly wouldnt buy an O/U or SXS from new. I don't blame your friend, I buy new. With new guns you have warranty. You wouldn't know the history of a gun. A friend of mine destroyed a mk70 hingepin in 3 months. Repairs it then flogged it. Semiautomatic have so many parts that miss assembly is possible. Edited October 27, 2014 by cookoff013

thepasty
£750 to £2000?! consider resale value?! pfffft I dont care for the finest quality, works of beauty, warranty etc etc... I buy old guns that cost little and as long as the important parts are good the more beaten up the better as I'm only going to beat them up myself! I want guns that I dont care if it gets rained on, I dont care if it gets dinged or scratched, I dont care for value, all I care about is that when I point it at something and pull the trigger it goes bang and if you know what to buy that wont be a problem. My current favourite shotgun is a remmy 1100 for £240, its got large areas of patina on the receiver, the bluing on the barrel is shot, the stock is dinged and blood stained (the latter being through my use) but it fits me like a glove and hasnt skipped a beat.... and you know what, I love the thing. My other is a Baikal o/u something or other I got for £100, rough and ready but I have no doubt that thing will outlive me.
