Last Time Before Christmas

Following yesterdays fiasco,( See Talk from the Field) I had to go out and have a better day, DB was itching to go out so started out at 08.00 straight to a large rape field we had seen last week . The wind was very strong but inspite of that as we drove down the track to the field we could see birds batterling to get into the field. This field is very high and its the first time I can remember it was so clear we could see large hills in the distance and also other rape fields we were not aware of. To prevent the sun being a problem we set up with the wind in our face so the birds would have to come in to the decoys over our heads. Incidently this is the part of the field they wanted to feed, twevle fresh birds from yesterday all on cradles hugging the ground. We had twenty in on us straight away, but the wind was so fierce they were jinxing all over the place and difficult to pair . We noticed in the distance heavy cloud being rushed in by the wind and before long it was raining a fine drizzle but with the wind it was drenching. The birds just stopped feeding and we lost our vision . There was a short break in the cloud and the sun came out and we could see the birds heading for another rape field in a valley , so we packed up and headed out. When we arrived at this parcel of four fields of about twenty acres either side of a narrow stream in a valley we could see the trees were loaded and the birds were feeding like " Fat Girls in Greggs" . We drove to the nearest farm and asked who's rape it was. Call us Jammy or What it was one of our farmers so a phone call and we had the go ahead. We set up along the valley with our decoys on one of the banks the wind was right to left it was getting on now about 13.00 and the birds started to return and we had some great shooting in the windy conditions and we continued to shoot till 15.30 as a return flightline started back to some big roost woods behind us.We picked up ninety one pigeons and got soaking wet in the process as it started to rain as we were packing up.

Well done PC & DB like the bit about the overweight ladies in greggs 👍 you are quite lucky that most of your farmers answer the phone ! It would be gutting to have what looks to be a promising day on the cards only to be let down when the boss man don't answer his mobile or landline ! Have a great Christmas PC and keep the posts and pics coming.

Well done again, you never mention your cartridge ratio but I always feel as im with you as I read your post's.

I hope the three of you have a very merry Christmas and a lot of pigeons in the new year. :xmas::xmas::xmas:

Thanks for your wishes, I never count the cartridges but I believe from the amount we shoot to what I replace it's about 2 to 1 on average , it depends on the type of shooting if it's just decoy shots it's like tin can shooting.
