I'm not being an **** for the sake of it but I see on plenty of forums service guys asking for shooting on the back of the fact that they are service......well hello, but why would anyone take a punt on one rather than average joe that's asks.........

oh shhhhhh i know Bleeh and been out shooting with him.....hence why he not answered his phone for the last few months....

let me check my work rota and think I have next Thursday off if you want to try and shoot some pigeons ...means i have a reason to dust off the gear

Looking forward to Thursday Mate? :)

Christ, I'm looking forward to sitting in a field let alone (hopefully) shooting. Four months of sea and sand, you start to miss brown and green stuff.

I wasn't aware that I had posted anything bad nor did I see anything bad posted but you seem to forget a lot of us older members have 'done our bit' and some of us a bit more.

I did twenty six years covering from the far east to the middle east, europe and south america, in those days postings were from country to country.

When 'we sit in our comfy chairs watching wars on tv' we remember things that went on before and notice how different it is.

When I was 'away' unaccompanied we weren't allowed 'phone calls home and there weren't mobile 'phones like there are today to keep in touch with our loved ones.

I went away once expecting to be away for six months while I was away there was a postal strike on and my wife didn't have a clue where I was as I got moved about from where I went initially.

The the six months lasted for eleven before I got home and I didn't get any R&R like they get these days for doing a six month tour.

This is not a post about 'War stories' or 'swing the sandbag time' it's just to let some of the younger guys know there are still a few of us oldies with a bit of military experience.

I know there are a few others on here as well.

Military service wasn't in my mind, just a long standing member, in limbo, I'd do the same regardless of vocation!

I don't comment on the 'I need some shooting' topics as it's so difficult to get, just that the OP just wanted some company, shooting related but necessarily shooting.

I know what you meant though.

Sorry lads, like I said I don't want to start a 'Swing the lamp, drag up a sand bag' post but I have seen some posts, not neccessarily Pigeon watch, where some posts have sounded a bit like 'I am a soldier give me some shooting' sort of thing.

The days of the poor soldier, national service days, of £2.12.6d a week are long gone.

I know from personal experience most, if not all, military garrisons have their own Hunt, Shoot and Deer management clubs open to all serving soldiers and civil servants.

As some of you will know the MOD owns so much land and if the wildlife wasn't controlled in some way then the local farmers would soon be complaining.

I'll bow out now and let pigeon watch do what it does best, help other members and good luck with whichever day/days he takes.

Sometimes it is like that, ex military being the 'selling point' for gaining land to shoot on.

  • 2 weeks later...

mate if your ever up north east and I'm home i can't offer out except a few rounds of clays and a bacon butties and few pints but welcome.

and for those who think its a case I'm "I'm in the forces give me a go!" its not we tend to mention it because it generally means the person your talking to then knows you should be proficient and safe with weapon systems , and responsible enough to be let lose on his land without him having to worry and it also means that he probably has some one who has atleast some basic medical training near by should anything happen

and last but by no means least we are dam proud to be/have been in the armed forces as its probably one of the hardest things we've ever undertaken

my apologies for a rant

not too mention you grow up in the forces

my lad went from being a typical 20 year old to being a polite responsible young man we could see the changes in him

he knows how to say yes dad no dad instead of just a shoulder shrug and a grunt lol
