Okrang
Hi Peeps! Sometime next week I will be receiving my FAC for .17 HMR, .22 LR and .22 air rifle. I have chosen which rimfires to buy but don't know too much about FAC air rifles! Would be interested in hearing from you guys which .22 air rifle you would chose if you had a budget of £750 - £1000, at what power and why? Cheers, John. evo
for that budget there would be only one choice for me,,a Daystate Huntsman Classic .22 running at 30ftlb, reason for this is, very light , very accurate and certainly a gun that you could trust to do the job, my second choice would be a Daystate Airwolf CDT .22 running at 30ftlb, a pure fac calibre air rifle and very very accurate but you would have to look for second hand with the airwolf, 3rd would be an unplayed with Rapid 7 brilliant fac air rifles
Okrang
Hi Evo, Thanks for the reply and your suggestions - I will certainly be researching those! What about the Daystate Air Ranger? - I see Countryman of Derby have a second-hand 40 ft/lb one for sale at the moment. Cheers, John
Gonk
After looking at quite a few secondhand rifles I eventually went for a new BSA R10 mk11. Great rifle in performance and looks so far
Okrang
Certainly a good looking gun Gonk. Is yours a 30 ft/lb one? If so, how many full power shots do you find you are getting per refill?
barney 66
I would also go Daystate, although at the moment I have a mk1 regulated Rapid 7 at 30ftlb but if funds allow I shall swap it this year for a Daystate
Gonk
It is yes, get 50 shots from a full fill, only did that once at the range when I did some over the chrono. and targets. I usually top up after a couple of trips out with it.
Salop Matt
For me it would be: Daystate : Huntsman Classic, Air Ranger or Air wolf. But not a Regal. Or BSA MK2 and take it to Darren at XTX air or the master John Bowkett. If not you could do AirArms, HW or a Rapid but for me that would be a last resort. .22 and run at 30ftlb (keep your pellet at sub 950fps, ideally at 900-930fps). IMO 40ftlb gives little benefit over 30ftlb but is far more air hungry. I went .22 30ftlb Daystate Huntsman Classic, I put a Hawke Panorama scope on top and it works great with JSB exact 16gn. The air ranger sounds good but I would get it turned down to 30ftlb and gain the shot count! ATB Matt

Okrang
Thanks for the detailed reply Matt - plenty of food for thought there! I have had a look at the XTX website and John Bowkett's website - both very interesting - thank you for mentioning them!
secretagentmole
There is always the Evanix Windy City, very good in FAC!
TaxiDriver
Only thing with the Bsa R10 in Fac is the legth of the barrel ! Its like a ruddy scaffold pole. I also get around 50 shots per fill
tanjipete
rapid 26 ft lb 80 shots from a fill on 400 cc bottle as deadly as they come & cheap as chips in fac

Okrang
Thanks for the links Secretagentmole - those Sumatra guns are certainly something completely different aren't they! The Windy City looks quite a contender though - any idea of reliability and availability of spares etc - can't seem to find out too much independent information about them! Do you / have you owned one? Cheers, John.
Rst1990
I went for the air arms s510 fac mainly because it has a power regulator on the side so I can select what ft/lb I want to run at any given time which I do use alot. Still very accurate after a year of ownership, has accounted for many pigeons, rats, squirrels etc
Crash72
Air Arms S510 Ultimate Sporter FAC. It can't be beat for the price, super accurate! I'm getting one in a few months in .25 calibre FAC.

I own an Evanix Rainstorm (looks like a close quarter assault rifle ie a bullpup), Very well made, accurate and mine has the shrouded barrel so quiet as well. A C Guns are the importers and they have been selling an awful lot of Windy Cities in FAC format! They are the spare parts department too but the things are built to be FAC so no worries on that score. Thinking about putting in for FAC air this year and having one of those as the gun in .25 format! Be like throwing laser guided bricks at the bunnies! Dekers
I would search the planet for a used Theoben Rapid Mk1 or 2. Despite the company issues, these are still up there and a cracking bit of kit. Edited January 7, 2015 by Dekers
