Alycidon
I was talking to a guy yesterday who had just gone through a normal renew interview with our new FEO, dont know if this was shotgun or co terminus, suspect the latter. Seems the FEO has a large questionnaire to fill out, questions like how many units of alcohol do you drink. are you on prescription drugs, if so which ones and dosage, any health issues. I appreciate that the side affects of some drugs can be depression and the guy is only doing what is probably instructed but it seems a bit more intrusive than necessary. Thinking about it on an initial grant then the questions are reasonable but on a renewal they seem intrusive. Is this now the norm?. perhaps others that have had a renewal in the last say six months can comment. If so I wil ask BASC for their take on it, Mike loves FEOs stepping out of line. Thanks for your input. A
MrDaveO84
if they want to know about prescription drugs, depression etc wouldn't they just speak to your doctor? Not had a renewal yet (only granted last year) but I was never asked anything like that at my interview. Seems a bit intrusive to me Edited January 16, 2015 by MrDaveO84

norfolk dumpling
I was asked a lot of extra stuff when FEO visited me for renewal. It struck me as rather strange he didn't know about an old, spent, SP30. The police stopped me and handed out the notice. Suggests they don't do a lot of work in the background for some renewals. There was also a lot of rather awkward stuff about safety. Like did my dad give me a safety talk (50yrs ago!!) when I was given my first gun. Having established he was ex-armed response copper I pointed out the whole ethos of game shooting was not to shoot humans whereas in his old job it was the reverse. SWMBO was chuckling in the background.
al4x
Ultimately are those questions wrong? We all know the problems with people and their own guns usually revolve round alcohol or depression. It's in everyone's interest that the feo is thorough, I know two people who used their guns on themselves after bouts of depression it's not a rare thing at all. What is sensible is irrelevant, it is not up to the police to make up the law as they go along. I would ring basc and refuse to fill out such a questionaire. al4x
The feo filled out the questionnaire having asked the questions on it. They aren't anything surprising that most haven't been asked albeit without a questionnaire

I would ring basc and refuse to fill out such a questionaire. Its not a questionnaire for the applicant to fill out but as I understand it the FEO asks the questions and fills the answers in. Mike Eversley (BASC) if you are here please comment, thanks. A
Curly87
Had a variation recently plus change of address, FEO never came out but did speak to me on the phone. Was asked how much I drank, was I on any medication, suffered depression, or had I become addicted to any drugs since 2013, which is when I moved into the county and got a new cert. This was with Dorset. It didn't really bother me, just sounded like he had some boxes to tick. I had nothing to hide.
team tractor
I think any Feo has a right to ask about drink, depression , drugs etc. even if you've lied at least they are covered by asking. I don't drink , smoke, suffer ( anymore) but admit no one would know if I'm a looney
