theshootist
There must be quite a lot of PW guys with experience of various pick-ups. I have been thinking a lot about finding myself one second hand as a shooting car to lug round all my gear. I would prefer a "super cab" type with only the small bench seats in the rear (Ford do a Ranger super cab). This would give a larger load bed and a decent space inside the cab to put my gun etc., I'd very rarely have to carry more than one passenger. I would be looking at one a few years old and with some mileage on to keep the cost down. What would people recommend? The Hilux's seem quite expensive second hand and all seem to be double cabs. The Navara seems to get a bad press as sometimes the Mitsubishi L200 too. That leaves the Isuzu Rodeo and the Ford Ranger. There seem to be more Fords about with the cab I'm after and with a 2.5l engine but I always said I'd not have another Ford after my Mk2 escort! al4x
simply there are good and bad experiences with all, as you say some hold their value more than others and much of the issue is buying one that has been well maintained and looked after. I have had a number of L200's and really they have been pretty reliable and there are a lot out there to choose from. Going for the smaller cab does limit your choice but there are still plenty out there to choose from. I don't mind the rangers but generally I have found them juicier and no more reliable. neil82
I`ve got the mazda supercab, brilliant truck, limo black tint on the back windows, just turned 100k miles, puts a lot of the newer stuff to shame in snow, AND NOT FOR SALE
theshootist
Thanks All, I've looked at the what truck thread. Seems the navara gets some good press.
Karl_h
I've got double cab ranger 56 plate, brilliant for carrying gear around and chucking muddy dogs in the back. Will go pretty much anywhere you point it once it has decent tyres on it, not too rough day to day driving either.

countryman
Hilux is by far the best choice, they have been making them for years, even the older ones just keep going.
pestcontrol1
Hilux if you are going to keep it for years yes the do hold there price well and do everything it says on the tin. I run a 2002 mk5 vx i paid 9k over 10 years ago now if you do need any parts they are cheap enough and available. I keep toying with the idea of changing mine but then think why bother 170k on the clock and dont miss a beat
