All depends on IF you want Spring or PCP

Springers are plentiful but i would steer clear of the Webley Sport! My Nephew bought one new and it couldn't hit a barn door at 10 yards and the power was around 8.7fpe :good:

You can get a huge selection of GOOD springers for £200 from the HW80 HW77 the AATX200 and the BSA Airsporters BSA Goldstar etc etc etc

PCP you can find BSA Spitfires (i hear a FEW stories about leaks) but Falcon FN19s sometimes come up for £200ish

AAS200 Webley Raider Titan (forerunner to the Falcon) The BAM 51 (huntsman copy) isn't as bad as people make out. I had one and for what it cost it was a damn good gun.

Just take a gander about and IF IN DOUBT ask on the forum and the lads will see you right :/

There is a VERY nice HW80 on the Guntrader website for £180 in Lincolnshire with a Tasco 3-9X40 scope and the Stock is in fantastic condition.

Best of luck

LG

air arms s200 pcp. Should be able to pick up a s/h one for £200.

I used to have one in .22 and found it to be a good reliable lightweight rifle. I used mine for lamping and found loading the pellet in the dark to be a doddle. Only thing i changed was the horrid plastic bolt handle for a nice brass one :good:

I recently picked up a mint 2nd hand AA S200 in .177 with Adjustable Butt Padd, Sling Studs, 10 Shot Magazine Conversion, AA Silencer and a few spare O Rings for £250

Took it out last night for paper practice, and on the way home bagged myself a lovely sized bunny with a clean headshot at 30 yrds.

Amazing rifle IMHO, the trick is to scan the right websites, keep your eyes peeled and strike when a bargain emerges.

Having said all that though, you would have to sort out re-filling gear also if you're just starting out, and if you're tied to a £200 budget then I hear you cant do much better than a BSA Lightning springer. Hopes this helps anyway mate :good:

in discussion just now for a aa s200 for 200 no scope but 10 shot mag also visited local shop cometa turbine 236 inc scopes new, bsa lightning 170 inc scopes ,bsa xl synthetic black body 130 inc sites what do you guys think is best for hunting?

It depends really! A PCP is better in the sense that you get no movement noise or recoil, multi shot potential and don't need to break the barrel (thus exposing yourself to quarry). The springer is better as its simplistic and doesn't require charging gear in the field.

All in all I have a BSA Lightning which I may be either upgrading to a AA S200 or at the least fitting a nice theoben gas ram. Most people hunt using PCP but then others stick too Springers and still get great bags. For a beginner I personally if i had my time again would have brought a .177 PCP instead of the .22 Springer.

the only problem with PCP is the extra cost of the charging gear. You either need a pump (think theyr about £100) or a diving bottle (got mine for £150 but alot easier than the pump). You need to work out a maximum you can afford and then go with that. You say £200ish budget? for this you would be better off with the springer.

The S200 with 10 shot mag is a good price at £200 but then you need the filling gear and a scope!

Hope you end up pleased with whatever you decide to buy anyhow!! :good:

If your serious about the sport and are planning on spending a fair amount of time in the field (and you can afford it) then I'd go for am entry level pcp like the S200. At the end of the day your going to get one probably six months down the line anyway. Just my opinion. Although there are those who would say you'd be better to learn the ropes with a trusty old springer first, but if your not going to use one in the long run - whats the point?

I had a BSA Supersport which is basically the same as a Lightning but the older model. It was a very good gun, so if you have a solid budget of £200 I'd go for the Lightning. If you can spend some more on charging kit, scope+mounts etc, then The S200 is a fine rifle (I replaced my Supersport with one!) Once you have a Spring gun, it only costs you pellets until the spring gives up (many thousands of shots). The PCP will forever be bringing you bills for charging kit and testing of bottles etc. The S200 can be silenced to next to no noise at all on firing, so is great for rabbits. A springer will always be noisy in comparison. If I was on a budget, I'd go for the Lightning, or the HW80 that was mentioned. They're a very good gun too

I am now considering the same upgrade from a lightning after about 5 or 6 months.

for the first time i would go for a spring rifle, bsa tacticle, small, light, compact and with very powerfull and good accuracy. now your got your aas200, how are you going to recharge it once it run out? if your buget has ran out?

why would you go for a springer as the 1st gun then?? If i was just starting out I know 100% that I wouldn't have bothered with the springer and gone with the PCP as I upgraded after about 3 monts after owning a lightning. Would never look back. PCP's are awesome and so much more quiet. I wouldn't say they are always more accurate as I could manage some cracking groups with the lightning but the PCP is so much better for hunting imo.

You will not be dissapointed with the S200! excellent gun (I personally don't find them very comfortable to hold but thats just me) have fun mate! :D
