Jonno243
Hello fella's, long time no see! I have recently decided on a clear out (prompted by the acquisition of a pair of Rizzinni RB's ) and have passed a load of shotguns to an RFD to get rid of on my behalf. How much should I be expecting him to take on commission from the sale? In all my years I have never disposed of guns in this way, I've always ended up selling them to pals! Paddy Galore!
10 to 15% normally, i'm not sure but does he still have to provide warranty?
simjakcal
I recently bought an airgun that a shop was selling for a customer....12% is what they said they were making on it !
dougall
more usual is you say what you want from each gun(x) and shop puts them on rack for (y)......you are after all stocking his shelves for free but he still needs to make a bit.. sitsinhedges
They will probably have a minimum fee if its an old banger that's not worth much.
sishyplops
As paddy says 10-15 % and then vat on that margin
longspoon
Call me old fashioned but would it not have been a good idea to agree commission % before handing over ? stops any nasty surprises........
sle
I was told 17% and £15 fixed fee yesterday when I asked at a local shop. Ridiculous.
daveboy
My local second hand shop (a rfd for airguns) charges 15%. It might sound quite expensive,But I would say he gets at least 15% more for them than I would selling private.
a303
Can't really complain about them charging 15% They're not a charity, they are a business there to make money, considering the problems and possible costs involved with warranty issues and advertising I think 15-20% is reasonable amount. clayman
You should end up with much the same nett money, and a lot less bother, if you sell you gun on commission. For the 10 - 20% that might be charged, the dealer is displaying / advertising to a bigger audience than a private seller gets, and is therefore likely to return a better gross price than a private sale anyway. They also deal with the time wasters, no shows, silly expectation hagglers, and those with a 2 hour long shooting history to discuss - and the dealer will also check the gun over with expertise, and should couple it to the end users needs ( less come-back, and its to the dealer not you if it happens). In practical terms, even though a dealer will make out of the selling price, you the seller have a hassle free sale and should get just as much as you would net in a private sale. Nothing wrong with the dealer / commission route. It should return all you want for the gun effortlessly, so don't begrudge the dealer his margin.
