Andylea
To all you pro pigeon men & lady's,if you had a choice in winter, would you shoot over maze or bean fields first,or have you got another preference
JDog
Pigeons are not attracted to beans in the winter, only Autumn or spring drillings and of course after harvest. The 'Lady's' on the forum may have other ideas.

Surely you haven't got the choice of those two at the moment to shoot over.

ayano3
You learn something every day. Didn't know you got beans this time of year. Always though they were drilled in spring and harvested late summer. Oh well something else to remember.

Always though they were drilled in spring and harvested late summer. Oh well something else to remember. Winter beans, which are deep drilled as late as the end of November, will be poking through by now. I have never even seen pigeons feeding on winter beans in February let alone shot any on the crop at this time.
ayano3
Thanks for the explanation jdog. The farms I shoot don't really grow beans but I have shot beans a few years ago just drilled in April/may.

motty
Sorry gents should of explained better the bean field never got harvested, tent farmer went bankrupt. Lucky you. I would have thought that any unharvested beans would have been eaten a long while ago.
Berettacocker
Always found beans, bit hit and miss. Sometimes they'll lay on top for weeks, if not months, untouched. Then along comes plough, turns over field, you think you've missed your chance, then they start chitting and the pigeons come in droves!. Don't think pigeons eat many beans when they're hard like pebbles, but once softened by rain, will often switch on to them.

Cranfield
If the beans left are chitting, that will definitely attract the pigeons. I had a similar situation about 5 years ago, when half a field couldn't be harvested and it provided some good winter shooting as an alternative to the rape. Pity was that the farmer was more interested in me shooting on the rape, than the beans.
