RawFeeder2015
Hi guys, not sure where I should be posting this so im putting it here... I raw feed my large cross breed dog, and was wondering if there was anyone in the Hucknall/Nottingham area who would be able to supply me with game (herbivores only) for either free or cheap. Ideally looking for things such as rabbits, pigeons, pheasants, deer ect Or would anyone know where I could source such items, local butchers are wanting £5 per unskinned rabbit which is too pricey for me as one rabbit is a days meal for my dog. RawFeeder2015
Free or cheap. I dont mind paying but im not paying £5 for a days meal. My dogs a German Shepherd cross boxer we think, we arent a 100% sure as shes a rescue
lurchers
I'm sure some of the lads and lasses on here would have such items for sale,as rabbits are only a £1 a peace up my neck of the woods and pigeons aren't that much if they sell to the game dealers. sitsinhedges
Why not just buy some dog food?
RawFeeder2015
I do buy packs of minced raw meat from a pet shop in sutton, but whole prey items help to keep the teeth and gums in good condition. Or do you mean buy dry dog food? If so I raw feed as my girl was starved as a pup and was struggling to gain weight on commercial dog food, after speaking with a dog nutritionist I decided to try raw feeding she has since gained 6kg and her overall condition is a lot better her teeth are white with no gunk on them, her coat is softer and her poos are smaller and no longer sloppy and smelly.. I would never put her back on dry food
shoot and be safe
sounds like a good reason to me to feed raw. Try your local game dealer, as they will no doubt have some game that is no good for retail dew to the way its been shot, especially pheasants during the season. fenboy
I would be worried about the amount of lead the dog would be ingesting if feeding pigeon / pheasant ect. Better to find a source of chicken carcasses , beef waste etc.
RawFeeder2015
Does anyone know how to find the local game dealer sorry im really useless at this. I already feed beef/chicken/pork/lamb and white fish but the key to raw feeding is having a variety of protein sources which is why I am looking to add game to the dogs menu
shoot and be safe
Try a search on Google for your area. You might be lucky and have one or two close by.

ferretfan123
I have a neighbour who races pigeons. When they get to a certain age or if they are no good, they get there necks rung. Free pigeon and no lead.

loriusgarrulus
Yes I know. Just couldn't resist it. Grandad used to love tripe and onions in milk. Nannan used to cook it for him, but we both reckoned it smelt like the bottom of a stagnant pond. Dogs love it though.
