I've just pasted this into Excel (clay carts) to work out how fast each cartridge takes to travel between 20 and 50 yards. I've not taken drag factors etc into effect, I've just divided distance by Speed. Example of a 28g clay load (fastest and slowest) Grammes Cartridge Name Feet Per Second Yards Per Second Time to 20 Yards Time to 30 Yards Time to 40 Yards Time to 50 Yards 28g Kent Velocity 1383 461 0.043 0.065 0.087 0.108 28g Mirage Pro Sport Extra 1194 398 0.050 0.075 0.101 0.126 Thank you for the post Johnnytheboy as It kept me entertained for 10 mins on a quiet Sunday. The test chambers tend to be a bit tighter in spec so the pressures are a bit higher, thus a bit higher velocity. One typical value I have for this is as follows: Shot Size 7.5, Muzzle velocity = 1240 fps. 10 yards = 1035 fps 20 yards = 885 fps 30 yards = 770 fps 40 yards = 690 fps 50 yards = 620 fps. Sad, I know, and I cannot be bothered with the calculations! Interesting though, what is claimed and what is measured and the range of differences for what, in theory, should/could be very similar. johnnytheboy Posted April 18, 2015 Author Report Share Posted April 18, 2015 The speed was taken 1m from the muzzle, although I wished I did it at ten feet as fibre wad cartridges won't chrono at 1m Rottweil cartridges were the most consistent shot to shot average, Fiocchi clay cartridges were the worst, in fact they were wild!
