Reeceknight
hi chaps, obviously your all full of knowledge, so thought I would ask. I have purchased this English box lock, it has 30" Damascus barrels, double trigger, it's extremely nice looking but I can't find anything in the Internet. The gun has michie & crockart on he action which I have found is the same company as James crockart & son, there is a gun very similar to mine for sale and that's all I can find? normally. Search brings up a list of old for sale ads on Google. Any one help out? Or know anything about them? Suffolkngood
Where on earth did you stumble across such a beautiful gun?
Reeceknight
I was offered it at a price that was simply to good to refuse. it was one of these situations where I don't think they realised what they had and I didn't quite realise what I was buying 😂 I committed to buying an "old side by side" over the phone and went and got it. only when I actually got home and searched the name and really looked it over did I think "bloodyhell that's a nice side by side" the person I got it off got it from someone else blah blah blah, it's one of them stories. DanWalker
Nice find, congratulations. I'm afraid I can't add much to the history of the makers other than the names are well-known in Scottish gunmaking circles and the permutations are baffling to me at least. Malloch, Michie & Crockart were a well-established Stirlingshire gun makers but whether they were anything to do with it I couldn't say. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be able to fill you in. Failing that check out: http://www.internetgunclub.com/ Looks to have a Screw Grip type third bite, if so then I think I am right in saying the action and barrels almost certainly originated with Webley in Birmingham. Beautiful gun, have fun finding out more about it (and shooting it!)
Harnser
You don't want to be shooting that gun . You should let me take it off your hands . I would gladly give you£35 for it if it includes the original motor case . A thing of beauty and a good example of the way guns used to be made in this country . Treasure it ,I would and the offer still stands . Harnser
