fenboy
This has been without doubt the worst season I have had for shooting pigeon over peas , they have just not been interested in them . I set off again today again in the hope of finding some pigeon on them , the first four fields I checked had nothing on them so it was not looking very promising . I pulled up at the next field and again nothing , I was just about to leave when I spotted a couple in the distance heading toward the field , they dropped in on the edge near the field corner. So I sat and watched for another 30 mins or so and therewas the odd one or two joining them , not big numbers but what was coming was doing so from a distance which is always a good thing . With no better options I lugged my gear down the field and was set up for 16.00 , using 10 decoy and the magnet. The first couple committed well and was added to the pattern as angels . Things were never busy but I kept getting the odd one or two and what came decoyed quite well , I packed up at 19.00 and picked 33 , 31 in the pic as the dog picked two more on the way back to the car. JDog
Did I read that you had taken the week off work especially to shoot pigeons on peas? I have no doubt that you will get another bag full tomorrow.

marsh man
Not bad going fenboy , a well deserved bag after the running about you do and carting your gear any distance to get to where the pigeons are .. How far are your peas away from vining ? Your young Lab is looking the part and looking in excellent condition as well .

They are still a way off they are now finishing flowering and starting to pod . To be honest my Lab is still a long way from the finished article , he is proving very frustrating although he did mainly behave himself today . I will soon be having another pup and if he has not fulfilled his promise by the time that one is trained I may have a hard decision to make. Catamong
Interesting post and pictures, are those peas destined for the early combine and freezer, as the ones in my area, (Marrowfat Peas for canning), are at least double the height, and well in flower now..? This time last year they were feeding well on them, this year they basically haven't touched them... Cat.

Yes they are vining peas so will go for freezing , they are perhaps 18" over most of the field but the area I was shooting has been kept down , these have just about finished flowering and have quite a few pods on already . I also have a couple of fields of harvest peas which grow much higher and are normally combined September .
