Gordon R
Never insured with them - normally too dear. My son's car was hit by a motorist - insured with Direct line. He phoned them up - they collected his car, repaired it - invited him to monitor the repairs and delivered it back. No paperwork - all done by phone. I was impressed. jackmichaels
hi folks just had renewal quote on my car insurance full comp £295 from swinton went on direct line £150 hell of a saving , does anyone have experiance of direct line ? thanks Yep and Swinton... Both good until something goes wrong. Read the small print carefully. At that level of premium I imagine you are like me a mature driver with an impeccable insurance record and plenty NCB so you can afford something a little more comprehensive The cheapest is not always the best. I'm with saga for my forester and have been for the last 5 years... £315 fully comp. plus all the bells and whistles.. I had quotes as low as £175 but they didn't have much substance too them. Just remember no matter who is at fault in the case of an accident one insurance company will try and explore every avenue to pin fault on and recover costs from the other, so make sure for the small additional premium you have legal and personal injury cover. Very often the occupants are more badly damaged than the vehicle !
MrM
I use Direct Line - only issue I had was when they wanted proof of No Claims. Having had a company car for the previous 4 years, they decided after I had taken the cover out that their underwriters would take those years into account ( even though I had a letter from them stating I hadn't had any accidents during that time). wanted to add £150 to the premium, till I kicked up a fuss, and then miraculously they decided to keep it to what I had already paid! Coming up for renewal in September so lets wait and see what they say! However I find that companies don't like giving good deals to existing customers. On my daughters newish Clio, for the second year her then insurance company wanted to double the premium even though she had another year of NCD. Excuse was "the newer Clios are now become more popular with the younger drivers!". So a quick Google and changed to Hastings direct for a lower premium than the previous year, but with more extras on. chady
Direct line were brilliant when someone hit me! Could not fault the one bit! So we're admiral even though I had reversed into a car!
NickS
I have had good experiences with Direct Line but the renewal premium for mine and my wife's car was ridiculously high. We got an Admiral multi car policy for well under half the DL quote. OTOH my 17yo son paid less than £700 for his VW Up! which was a lot cheaper, so it pays to shop around. Guest newarcher1
thanks folks we have just had a good comprehensive quote from saga for £
sandspider
Direct Line were good when I needed to use them (someone hit me). Car collected, fixed, I could monitor the repairs, which were pretty well done, hire car included etc. But they do tend to up the premiums on renewal (as most insurers do), so check again at renewal time. Davyo
DL are fine but like a insurance it depends on the level of cover, plus don't expect the same premium at renewal it will be way way higher than your 1st year,so just move on.I always renew mine even before I get my reminder ( 4 weeks before expiry),when the reminder comes I simply phone and say no thanks. They always want to know why,and that reason is that insurance companies used to give you a renewal price usually when you old one was within 4 weeks of expiry. Now they tend to send your renewal within a week,or two( if your lucky) of expiry, poss in the hope you can't be ***** to look else where & they always word it like "you don't have to do anything now your insurance will just continue" If you spend 10/15mins on the comparison sites you can always come up trumps, just read the small print and don't skimp on excesses eat just to shave off a few quid. steve_b_wales
I've been with Direct Line now for the 3rd year. Never had any problems with them, and their quotes were always cheaper than anyone else.
Vince Green
It is true that the cheaper quotes are 'defeatured' to remove things like NCB protection and courtesy cars to make them appear better value. Its a balancing act.
bornfree
I change companies every year go for £1000 excess and pay around £120 full comp.
