beatingisbest
just a hollowpoint or flat pellet to deliver the most energy to give the quickest dispatch Try a few different pellets like hollow or flat and see which one groups best in your rifle
08shooter
i have been using accupels all week.you could also try bisley pest control (real heavyweights)accuracy is the most important.a strike is a strike misses with bad pellets ,the rats will soon catch on.have fun
tosspot
Usually find that a pellet of any description placed nicely in the noggin will suffice
pin
I've not shot many rats, less than 10 for sure. I have noticed that front on or quatering doesn't work well, they have thicker skulls that way, or so it seems. Side on placed like a rabbit shot and they fall down without a twitch. The very first I ever shot did a backflip and ran back down a hole, right between the eyes with full power .
dibbz2000
I was out earlyer this evening clearing sum rats from round a grain bin, RWS Superdome @ 20-30 YRDS all head shots. 6 shots taken, 6 Dead rats... Speaks for itself!
Cyber
use a pellet that is accurate in your gun! I use either Air Arms Field, Daystate FT os JSB Exact. All near enough the same pellet (weight etc is the same) and they all do the job superbly. Shot 8 rats last night, all head shots bar 1 which was a vitals shot as I couldn't see its head and it still rolled over without a twitch. I have used Logun Penetrators aswell, and they do have some serious knockdown power, especially if you want a bit of extra clout in .177. .22 is equally as good with them aswell, smacks like a hammer!! stevethevanman
I use standard air arms diablo field pellets, which works fine on most airgun shootable pests
marlin1
Always use Bisley pest control when shooting barns on farm...
naddan28
Always use Bisley pest control when shooting barns on farm... What grouping do you use for shooting barns, I assume 10ft groupings should be fine?
Cyber
I zero mine in at 30 and then usually at around 10 yards, I have to aim a little higher. 15yards out to about 35 with a 30 yard zero should be about right anyway for .177, not sure about.

dr_nick
RWS hollow points, work like a dream, verry accurate and will certainly take a Rat down wih a head or heart shot, cheap too. .22 is best though.
shotgun..willy
i shot 7 rats yesterday with air arms super field .177 all the head shots passed right through and the scaly tails didnt even twitch
Teal
Today I tried reversing pellets (H&N ftt) in my airifle , was only able to do it in garden, but they kept accuracy perfectly to 20 yards. I have heard that they will do serious damage to ratty when this way around (and it's easy to see why!).
kip270
If it is SHORT RANGE then stick your pellets in backwards, they are great. The best one are Superdomes for this. (you will be surprised how accurate they are)
BSA Shaun
Always used domed pellets myself, apparently a better trajectory. Those nylon halfbreeds have very mixed reviews. My 2p
monkeyjaimz
Today I tried reversing pellets (H&N ftt) in my airifle , was only able to do it in garden, but they kept accuracy perfectly to 20 yards. I have heard that they will do serious damage to ratty when this way around (and it's easy to see why!). A shooting buddy of mine said the same thing to me the other night, apparantly reversing the pellet minces the dirty beggers quite nicely, having not tried it myself I cant comment on the range aspect though.
