deny essex
Well did not get on the road to Cornwall today , the mrs got a call from Papworth hospital Cambridge at 4.30 am to get there for the possibility of a double lung transplant. Picked up by an ambulance car at 5.30 and whisked away to hospital with the blues going. With all the prep work done on the mrs we waited, at 11.55 we were told it was past time for the transplant to be carried out, so she got dressed and after a visit to the restaurant we were taken home again. The 2nd time we have been through this but were warned that multiple call in's could happen. As serious as the condition is my wife still smile's through and makes wise cracks in between 16 hours of oxygen a day. We only have praise for the quality of care and friendliness of the staff to keep you at ease. We cannot get upset or annoyed at the transplant not happening because a donor is holding onto life for as long as they can. The NHS may have problems but we can not let hospitals and care for the sick young or old diminish. I carry a donor card and put what I can into NHS charity collections you never know when you or a loved one may need their help and skills. OK got that said hopefully off to Cornwall in the morning

bruno22rf
Biggest fear I had pre transplant was the question of pain-its something that you can somehow feel a little weak if you ask-almost seems inevitable and even ungrateful to ask for as much pain relief as possible-if your wife is worried then please tell her that it is not going to be a major problem-her elation at everything being over will keep her spirits way above any minor pain that she may encounter-her biggest enemy is going to be boredom as she recovers. If you want to help her then plan as many visits from as many friends as possible to keep her spirits up-she may fall asleep during many such occasions and never remember them but they were crucial to me and kept me sane. Give her my very best wishes and assure her that the effects of immune suppressant drugs are dulled by time-she will have a future and that is worth the world and then some. shaun4860
I carry a donor card and I believe you should have to opt out of giving organs rather than have to opt in, I think it would create a lot more donors that way, I hope the Mrs gets sorted soon, Enjoy the break

I used to work across the road from the hospital....

secretagentmole
Best of luck and I hope a donor is found soon! The waiting is the worst part I have been told! Sent you a list of places to go, some of which you may not have heard of, like Carnglaze Caverns and Callestick Farm.
