old man
Ok, as title please? I can feel a future buy in the wind, maybe? Not knowing anything much about this type of thing can you all please give me your advice and comment for an O/U for pigeons/vermin out to 40 yds? Not necessarily the make, will be second hand as it's a secondary interest. Single or double trigger? Ejectors? What choke sizes best? Assume chambers 2.3/4" And any other considerations please? Thanks in advance.

Alycidon
Used Beretta, Miroku, Nikko or Browning, ejectors yes please, single trigger ideally with auto safe. 28inch barrells or longer but if you are short then by all means look at 26- 27 inch as well, they are currently out of fashion so are cheaper than long barrells. These brands should always hold their value. Chokes for general shooting, one open at around Imp Cyl/ 1/4 and one a bit tighter at 1/2 - 3/4 area should serve you well. Fit is by far the most important aspect, Berettas have slightly different stock dimensions to Browning/Miroku. Every Nikko I have ever picked up has fitted me as do most lightweight Beretta's.. walshie
I think most if not all o/u shotguns are single trigger. 1/4 and 1/.2 chokes. Doesn't matter about ejectors.
rimfire4969
I would look at secondhand, you will get a better quality gun for the money and there is no reason one of the main brands will not last another 20 years if looked after. Fit is the most important thing, chokes I am using 3/8 and 5/8 but I am awkward 1/4 and 1/2 will do just fine. Ejectors I would not lose a good gun because it had none but I expect it will, same a single trigger. Don't discount Caeser Guerini, mine fits me like a glove out of the box. Lord Geordie
If it's for pigeon bashing then a single trigger ejector would be fine! Plenty of cheap I options out there! Lanber, bettinsoli, browning, laurona, lincoln etc, even Baikal. I bought an "as new" laurona with full set of chokes and beautiful figured stock for £350. Beautiful gun and I walked out the shop with a huge grin! If it's for game, you can pick up a double trigger non ejector for as little as £150. I never understood why the double trigger sells for less? I love double trigger guns? I have a DT NE I picked up for £100 and use it as my hide gun! As for chokes! I would think that either 1/4 and 1/2 Or. 1/2 and 3/4. Would be ideal.
welshwarrior
Any good single trigger ejector will serve you well. You do not need the ejectors but it's hard to find good single triggers with out now. Chokes 1/4-1/2 does 90% very well but a little variation won't overly hinder. Barrel length 28"-30" will work well 30" is more fashionable right now but who cares. Gun fit is the only really important thing as it makes you shoot where your looking and reduces felt recoil making the gun more comfortable. Give me a ring if you want any more advice
