NickB65
Well the wife wanted to buy me a new gun for my birthday and I have always fancied a 20 bore so last week we had a mooch around a few gun shops in the area (Simpsons of Newmarket, Stutley's in Hertfordshire). We tried a Beretta Silver Pigeon first and found that a little low, then I tried another Beretta, three Brownings (B525, 425, 725), a very nice Bettinsoli, a Lanber and then a Mirouku. All of them were nice but none fitted me like the Browning B525 Hunter with the 28" barrel. Mounting that was clean, easy, I only saw a fraction of the rib, it swung easy and the length was almost spot on. So, on the way home tonight I popped back into the gun shop and asked for the B525 to be put to one side as the wife will be in to pay for it in the week :-) Quite excited.... All advice welcome on what are the best cartridges for Pigeon, pheasant / partridge and clay shooting.

NickB65
Thanks Dave...... she is a gem and I am very lucky. I will certainly be posting my progress and I am keen to compare how the 12g shoots compared to the 20g and if the lighter 20g becomes my preferred gun :-)
HDAV
Just don't mix the carts! Enjoy!
Paul T
I've just done exactly the same thing and bought a 20 bore. Cartridges I'll be using for game will be either Hull High Pheasant 25g #6 or possibly the Sipe equivalent
NorfolkAYA
Hi mate a bought a lincoln 20b premier gold delux the other month and absolutely love it. Don't think I will ever have a need to pick a 12 up again. I use the Rio 24gm 6's nice cartridge and reasonably priced. Have fun
sitsinhedges
Reloading becomes viable for 20 gauge too so save your empties
Westley
Express 28 or 24 gram 7's work well for both Clays and Game in my Miroku. Later in season will get a few 5's in 28 grams. Express 24 grams 4's steel for duck seem OK too.
Shropshire_Lad
I am hooked on the twenty bore. Most look stunning and sleek and are a joy to carry. To be fair though I am not finding my Browning 725 very forgiving to shoot. I have had to work hard to get my clay scores any way near the same as with a twelve, the first shots at game have been the same. I did shoot a pattern out of frustration a week ago and boy does this one shoot tight even with cylinder in . Time to try a few different cartridges lol. The more you use it the better
sitsinhedges
I just noticed that Just Cartridges have 20g Eley 28g/5s for £180 in their bin ends. That's a good price for anyone needing a few.

8 shot
I have 725 32" 20 patterned mine out of interest and found not to much difference between 1/4 1/2 & 3/4 until you use plastic wads then it tightens a lot i found you can go down at least two chokes size gamebore pure golds 28 patterned superbly
