fielddweller
Guys Just been looking at the action of one of my under loved (abused) guns and thought a dip in the sonic bath with 50% water and 50% white vinegar would do it the world of good. Is this a done thing or a no no. Many thanks Fielddweller
robbiep
I personally would not, though I'm sure plenty of others would. Is there anything wrong with the gun to make you want to do this work ? Probably as many problems have been created by un-needed cleaning as by not cleaning
Tim Kelly
Remi pump or Purdy best? Do what you want with a pressed metal action, probably not with a Purdy. lol
fielddweller
It's a old over/under that I have not really looked after. When I stripped down I noticed the action was very black with a lot gunge in it,thought a quick dip in the bath would sort it. Perhaps if I just used warm water in the sonic bath it shouldn't do any damage. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Fielddweller
welshwarrior
Make sure it's only water, and none of the bits are rattled off! You should be ok.
Les*1066
If it's really gungy, then spray it with a brake cleaning aerosol - that'll get all the muck and congealed oil and grease out.
hyflier
Place it in a paraffin bath, allow to dry thoroughly then re-lube
B25Modelman
If you are not bothered, yes with sea-clean added. Edited December 1, 2015 by B25Modelman
ChrisAsh
Just use compressed air they come in small spray cans for cleaning electronic items and dont forget to re-oil when finished, if using the other answers use WD 40 after to get rid of any water then light oil
Junkyard Dog
Kitchen green or biox in the cleaner, will not damage anything but will be like new, we use it for cleaning diving regulators, inc the plastic and rubber bits..... CharlesP
Just possibly there is indeed harm in soaking a shotgun action in dilute acid...
