B725
The gas comes down the same pipe through the same meter whoever the supplier is they don't change the meter when you swap energy companies
paul1966
what i meant was that meter will continue to be smart when you switch supplier rather than just revert back to a normal meter as the new company can't connect to the smart meter, which is the problem we had when we switched a couple of years ago. I still don't see what the problem is, yes it will be a smart meter but treated as a normal meter until the new supplier comes on board. That way it saves the customer having to have the meter changed twice.
B725
As I have said there is a rolling programme to install smart meters at the moment you can refuse but eventually they will be fitted because the meters are the property of the utility companies they have a legal right of entry so ultimately you will all have them
old man
"1984" The reliance of compliance, meters the acceptance of intrusive social science in the guise of monitoring your appliance! Superbly put!
lksopener
I'm not getting involved in the debate but just wanted to add that we have a NEST smart thermostat and its great. Saved us money on our bills and performs faultlessly. It's great as we work odd shifts and its nice to come home to a warm home on a cold morning/evening, all controlled from the app. Wouldn't be without one now. shoot and be safe
The letter landed on my doorstep yesterday informing me that they were in the area installing smart meters and to give them a call to arrange a convenient time for them to install the new smart meter. Don't know if it's worth swapping or not and having read through this thread I'm still not swayed either way. It's 6 months since this thread was started, is there any fresh information regarding these meters? Stonepark
Only thing to add is if you are on a prepaid meter and can afford a normal meter, do not agree to a like for like replacement as this represents an opportunity to get the meter swapped for free.
