al4x
Pretty much depending how many pups you have there may be some space to bargain

al4x
On a 10 week pup though it will want proper sedation and be more towards an operation. If not done at birth I'd leave them

RedRobin
I was quoted £500/600 just for the dew claw on my 10 week pup At 10 weeks old thats classed as amputation isn it. ? Edited January 23, 2016 by RedRobin
loriusgarrulus
Expensive just for dew claws. I know it was 4 years ago, but we had our Setter operated on. He had an undecended testicle removed, the other one vasectomied so he would keep his nice silky coat and his dew claws removed for £270. al4x
the thing is the chip can be £10-15 and you have to have it done at the vet doing the docking, then the paperwork that goes with it means it does take a certain amount of time to do. Add to that a lot of vets not being that keen to do it and the costs do seem to increase. With a small litter its probably ok with one of 10 then it would make you wince. It doesn't have to be the same vet that does the docking as long as the vet signs the paperwork for the docking you can have it chipped elsewhere. My local vets don't dock so I have my pups done 30 miles away and use my own vets for all the other things I need done which includes the chipping. fortune
Jeez. And when you think that years ago they just used a sharp knife or a pair of side cutters which my vet used to dock the tails. But that was a day or two old, not at ten weeks. Still if you didn't have it done and the claw was torn off at some stage the injury would soon heal up naturally. Vets have made our pets into a mine of gold. Vets used to be more practical and less money grabbing but in the world of legal claims you can quite see why they stick to the book and things cost as much as they do.
