20bore cartridges

Not owned a 20 bore before but what would be the best load to pigeons

opinions vary and you're going to hear the following:

 

- any load from 21 to 30 g with shot from 5 to 7.5

- it depends on decoying, flightlining, or roosing

- find one you like and stick with it.

 

For me, I like Proper cartridges 28g 6's for most everything under 40 yards which is all the further I shoot my 20 anyway. They are soft and cheap.

yep. 25g 6/7 hull high pheasant lovely to shoot.

28g eley vip/rc sipes which hit hard at both ends if you dont mind bit of a nudge.....

A lot probably depends on what 20 gauge you are using. Mine is just under 7lb and ounce loads suit it well but maybe something like a Silver Pigeon at around 6lbs would find them too much.

I use 30grm 5shot in mine. Seems to upset those high crows no end and the pigeons aren't too keen!

Fiochi do a 28 gram or 24 gram Italian 7 1/2's fibre wad at around £225/1000 which may suit your needs. They work well enough for me through a Silver Pig, at 6lbs. 2ozs. weight.

I am pondering on the idea of a twenty not got one yet just seeing what ammo is out there and what people use

I'm looking at a bernadelli sxs 26inch barrels quarter and half choke

My sp5 is fine with 28g loads but 32g loads are noticeable.

Hi mate, I recently switched to a 20b, I normally use Rio 24gm 6 shot for pigeons and vermin. I went pheasant shooting last weekend and bought some rc sipe 26gm 6 shot and there pretty decent. Bith cartridges will do the job on pigeons 👍

I went roost shooting with my newly acquired 20 last Sunday and shot some very good birds with 24g 7's. I've got some 26g 6's to try as well

You won't shoot a better cartridge than rc sipes, 28grm 5s or 6s, but the fiocchi GFL are pretty good too, pointless shooting anything heavier in a 20, you'll just get beaten up. I use 21 grm hull pro twenties on clays too, really good patterns and you can shoot them all day.
