keg
I go both ways. Mrs has a 9 yr old Landcruiser with 145k miles. So far it's cost us an alternator and is used for pulling boats and quite a big Ifor. I have a 96 plate Defender 90, had it for 9 years and not a peep. It also has worked hard. Good and bad in both. Mate had a Disco 3, 10 years old and 180k on the clock. got £4,000 as a trade in to the local indie and has a DS. We are on a driving day with LR on the 20/3 but so far he loves it. keg
Was on experience day in January, you will be amazed at what it can do! Good to hear Philm. My chum come from a farming family and they always have a green oval on the fleet somewhere. As to the comment from LowStandards, appreciate your points and of course it won't have the same fuel economy as a fiesta but we have to compromise as a spacious Fiesta with 4x4 doesn't sexist. rodp
No, and you don't sit in an armchair and steer with your thumb in a Fiesta either
figgy
Keg you can have a fiesta size and 4x4 in the fiat panda a very good little off roader with proper tyres. Friend had a Sisley 4x4 in the late eighties it went places a land rover got bogged down. More and more manufacturers are making SUV's in the GLC,X3,Tiguan size as there is a market for them. Look at how many Evoques and disco sports are on the roads now compared to new disco 4's. Toyota RAV4 out sells all land cruiser models. I know people who drive Honda CRV all over their perms one is s member on here. Not many times did I drive a disco or landrover off road in conditions most suv's couldn't cope with. Whitebridges
Mercedes were very slow in to the SUV market. We ordered a GLC 250d AMG line and when we took delivery were told it was one of the first ones in to the UK. My missus drives it the most and she loves it as do I. Done about 2k miles to date. Fabulous motor, darn good off road as well. Not sure how you can compare one of these to a Disco Sport. Like chalk and cheese.
WinchesterDave
I think maybe, the GLC is more of the on road SUV with the ability to tackle light off road work. Wereas the Disco sport is for the customer who requires a slightly more robust, practical vehicle that can tackle slight harsher off road work and is bigger in size to carry more kit etc? Honestly there isn't much in it. Both are designed to be on the road, though the LR does have the land rover drivetrain and a bit more robust off road system. I think that is due to heritage and not wanting to alienate a customer base rather than intended use. Once you've sat in one it is fairly clear that it isn't intended to be used much off road and the price is commensurate with that. Not much in it for cargo space either (compared to the GLC). the DS does have the 2 spare seats if you need a 7 seater and if I needed 7 seats it would be my lead candidate by far of the options available. thanks rick
dougall
if you want a flying handbag the new Porsche compares with the GLC. frankly these are not 4x4 s as we know them though but the new 'caring' chelsea minor tractors.... The latest range rovers in any guise are not the 4x4's were all used to either. All electronic wizardry instead of chunks of iron to lock diffs etc. How many of us use a 4x4 to its potential, not many. Most are mainly road based, only farmers game keepers forestry are off road more than on.
norfolk dumpling
I work for a company who supply courtesy vehicle for Jag/Landrover and DIsco sport seems to be the one with problems and we regularly provide replacements for and, as we go direct to the customers house, we hear some real horror stories - ma jor electrical failure, new engines etc. Also, rather worryingly, the service manager at one of our main dealers described new Landrovers as "...expensive ****"!! Mind you I would still love a D4 but make sure it has a good warranty and make sure your repairer is a good one - this probably means avoiding all the main dealers.
