TONY R
About 50' away, lit up in main beam on a tarmac road. Came towards us then turned sideways and went through hedge. So two people, well lit, good view, no obstructions, front and side view. It wasn't a labrador. So i still ask, what was it if not a very large black cat ? Some common or garden pet or amimal you two obviously misspok for a big black cat.
rodp
At 50' tops in main beam, two people ? You could more or less count whiskers at that distance never mind mix up cat and dog. It was a cat, it was big and it was black, so what was it?

Just going for a wild guess here going by your description. I realise i could be way off and it could possibly be a small white donkey. May as well be, you tell someone what you've seen clear as day and they deny it Must have got it mixed up with a Golden eagle, our mistake, sorry You seem confident it was not a dog so it will be some other animal you misstook for a black cat. I lamp and prowl about a hell of a lot and in a good few areas of the county foxing stalking and i am out and about all hours remote places wildfowling, i see the badgers deer fox stoats mink otters all sorts of pet cats and a lot of them black too. But no panthers pumas or tiggers like some people claim to have seen. We need a body then we can get serious about big cats in the uk today . leadbreakfast
I once saw a black cat like animal run across the road in front of me when traveling near gainsbourough, it crossed the two lanes of road in three jumps. It was dark and was just out of my headlights to give a positive I'd.

TONY R
There is no arguing when a carcase when its laid there, then the non bellievers become the outsiders, and all the off the wall conspiracy theories star croping up like the government made it look like a cat. No get a dead body and you have nailed it. .

And do you think your Flo would put big cat on your ticket so you can legally produce the carcass Trying to go all technical now are we. Not bad for a creature that does not exist. Well if its in conection with managing an estate and thats on your cert you can kill it. You really want a H&H 375 minimum for dangerous stuff . but i dare start procedings with a ten round mag on an MP153 with 2 1/4 oz loads of AAA lead and be quietly confident if i did not get a jam i would be able to still photograph it. Not getting technical just putting reality in place most sightings are at night and in reality a rabbit gun won't do the job a fox gun may do it but a bit chancy Dawn and dusk you may have a deer rifle that would possibly do the job Non of which would be sanctioned for big cat This would explain why a law abiding licence holder has NOT posted a picture of one they have shot Just my take on it All the best Of

Hamster
If a law abiding FAC holder saw a large wild cat or mountain lion at close range they may well feel they're in a life threatening situation if it also growled at them, which is what large cats do so shooting it would be entirely excusable. In fact to not do so would be irresponsible since they present a real ( ) threat to children and pets.

walshie
They won't condition your FAC specifically for big cat round here, but they put "fox, vermin, AOLQ and nudge-nudge" on your ticket instead.
Vince Green
You just keep believing yourself that they don't cos I think going off the thread you the one that needs convincing. I think there is a big difference between "did" exist and "do exist. The evidence that they did exist is absolutely overwhelming and we know where they came from and why. Whether they could have survived to breed is another matter.

We know a lot of them came out of the exchange and mart magazine years ago when you could buy exotic pets without a license.but you right what you say have they bred,as when I work it out when we seen it that was 30yrs ago so it would be good to find out if they have.if I can get a pic of a foot print that was found at the time I will put it on here as I don't now if it's still at the persons place. I do believe that the Ministry of Agriculture (as it would have been at the time) had a policy of saying nothing. Total denial at all levels. Otherwise they could have been blamed because it would have been their problem and by default they would have taken the flak. Its not a big mystery or a big conspiracy. Just a historic fact, another non native species released into the wild by idiots. I do also believe the now old stories of bodies being reported and men from the ministry taking them away never to be seen again. In reality what else could they have done? There was no profit in spreading panic and alarm. Interesting but history, there may be a few left Edited March 14, 2016 by Vince Green

The evidence that they did exist is absolutely overwhelming and we know where they came from and why. Whether they could have survived to breed is another matter. This is quite true, there have beren big cat roaming about, a puma was killed in Scotland in the early 80s it was on telly and all the radio stations for a few days, and a jaguar was hit by a car in the midlands some where in the mid 1980s. But since then i have not heard of any more. And as the act to ban owning these things came in in 1976 the timescale looks practical. But a population that sudenly becomes ellusive wraith like in its movements, i just cant bring myself to acept they could survive without a dead body being found a car hiting one something, the majority of the sightings on this thread have been in car headlights ., why are more not killed by cars. ?
