bruno22rf
Can only wonder how much a hand built gun, made by English craftsmen, and wearing wood of such quality would cost today? Crying shame to see her for sale for a pittance.
redial
When I went back to Wynnstay to ask about a part exchange, my riecipt in hand I was told they were not taking any sxs in due to lack of demand, yet asking top money for those sxs in the rack. Had a similar experience when I went to p/x a sbs near Glasgow at the place of purchase for a more expensive sbs they had. Will not purchase ever again from them as think that is poor way of doing business. Good luck with sale.
redial
Thank you, I was left feeling let down not just about the gun but I buy bits and pieces including cartridges at Wynnstay and had always recommended them, not any more.
wabbitbosher
Its a sad old doo, i can sort of stick up for you Dealer in a way Side by sides have taken a knock every year around this time of year since the resession. when i started in this job it was well worth throwing £200 or £300 at a side by side because you would get it back The New shooters coming into shooting want over and unders and semi autos so thats knocked the side by side along with the European law where All RFD's had to have a computer register (which the Home Office dropped the idea at the last hurdle 11 Days before we were told it was going to be Law) this saw the loss of quite a few Old school Gunsmiths who just decided this was the time to retire So that put the price of Gunsmithing up putting off a lot of shooters/Dealers from buying Old English Guns All Dealers have a Business to run so we have to justify what we spend on stock Some of these Gun shops have Council Rates of £30,000 or more a Year so you have to sell 60k worth of guns a year before you even make a profit Money sitting in racks is never a good idea Please dont just drop your Dealer, he has to make Harsh decisions, at the end of the day he has a Family to feed and bills to pay His gun on the rack at £350 £400 he's making £75 to £125 Profit Tops Its So easy to Spend more than you are making Then in the bat of an eyelid you go bust I'm one of the lucky ones, i operate from Home so i have little to no Overheads so i can keep my prices down, Hand on Heart i make about £6k a year that tops up my pension I get a MASSIVE Support from My Pigeon watch guys YOU Yes YOU God i Love you all !!!!!! Marki
Well said Bosher and nice gun Redial. When I have a bit of money spare I plan on buying a nice English SXS, preferably a hammer gun. I still believe they have a place in the cabinet. I've an old, and very used, Bignotti that I enjoy taking out even if I never manage to hit anything with it. panoma1
Well put Mr Bosher! 50 odd years ago I had the ambition to own a quality English SBS, but I could not afford one until about 20 years ago, I paid around 2.5k for a mint regional best BLE, with original measurements in an beautifully made oak and leather case, with original trade label and the usual tools, ebony rods, snap caps, oil bottle etc, shortly after wards I was offered £5k for it at a driven day in Devon, but declined! I still use this gun for all my game shooting from pheasant and partridge to grouse.......and I still love that gun it feels alive and part of me in my hands, and I can, on my day still shoot well with it.....if I miss its down to me not pointing the gun straight! A top quality English gun will still hold its price.........is a thing of beauty and testament to the skill of those craftsmen that made it..........however it saddens me to see good quality hand made English SBS's which is a work of art, being flogged off cheap and discarded in favour of a mass produced soul less machine made tool! Anyone who has a top quality unmolested English SBS they don't want......I would buy it in a heartbeat! And if you wanted I could chuck in a decent O/U that never sees the light of day!! guzzicat
I couldn,t agree more but the other side of the coin is it has allowed me to buy the guns that were out of my league just a few years ago,I now own A C Hellis, A charles Lancaster, a J. McRirrick & an Army & Navy without breaking my bank,& I love them all.
wabbitbosher
Ps , the Above gun is a Steal at the price Grab a Bargain and a stunning bit of English History that will out last most of us on here for the price of a second hand Hatsan (which will go throught my chopper in less than Ten or Twenty years) and A Quarter or the price of a restock with a similar bit of wood !!! redial
I love the sleek lines of SxS and I am not a serious clay buster and would proberly hit more with a o/u. Being a SxS fan and only shooting clays at the moment the short chamber restrictsz.. your choice of buying a TRUE 65mm cartridge. I don't like using those that say suitable for 2 1/2 inch chamber and that my friends is the only reason for its sale. Thank you for your comments.
