rbrowning2
Land is never going to be cheap down south, why do think you need to move south? Surly being in the midlands has to be useful is that not why hull, gamebore etc are up your way, if it a remote site you seek then I would guess such places are easier to find where you are or in Scotland or north wales disused quarry for example but I am sure somebody who lives that way may correct me. One of the problems of living on a little Ireland and a finite amount of land.

TONY R
Duno about a small holding, but you might get a remote unit on alconbry weald, with a few hundred yards round it and secure.

I don't know if you didn't go to school on the days you had geography but Hull is 147 miles from George and not even in the midlands Deershooter

saddler
Against some of the advice given I'd NOT suggest ANYWHERE in Scotland given the present government. Rapidly anti shooting sports.... Being IN Scotland means that any trip south takes several hours of dead-time stuck on the same single carriageway A1 "motorway" While at a two & a half hour headstart from here, George is still quite "oop North" for the PW Massive that consider Watford a bordertown of the arctic circle. Had a phone call recently with a London "darn sarf" type. They liked my Mackamese accent & passed comment that they'd been "up in the North" a few months previous to visit friends. I asked where did they visit. The serious reply? Birmingham My money on a more geographically isolated location that's still within driving distance of a decent customer base would be Lincolnshire. Lots of ex-RAF bases around there too.

Konnie
This is possibly ruled out straight away due to the explosives factor, an industrial unit, that's in this type of area, normally out of town and many have chemical & fertiliser traders and they can be problem if things go wrong, but as said possibly in another category. ATB with your search.

Down south anything past Watford is considered up north. What I was trying to say was that surly being approximately in the middle of country has its advantages as you have potential customers from every direction on the compass. figgy
Ex mod base somewhere round mid England would suit geographically. George if no ex mod bases get somedemi rural land and build what you need with the separation for your powder storage etc. You could build a test room or or small test building soundproofed if you did have neighbours. figgy
George you might aswell search for the lost city of Atlantis with what you require in a location and buildings and shooting opertunities. Contacting local estate and land agents in the areas your interested in would be your best bet. Edited April 18, 2016 by figgy
