Pykie
Decided after work I would go out the woods for a wander. Having had a nasty dose of flu I had not been out for nearly a month. Throwing a handful of mixed cartridges into my pocket I made my way to the Pen. It started to rain and half a dozen Wood Pigeons clattered out of the trees, with one circling and coming back into the dry. I had screwed a full choke into the top barrel of my gun and down he came stone dead. There were four ducklings and mother on the pond, and the usual pair of Canada Geese. I had a rat in the mink cage by the river which was a bonus then headed to Young Trees Drive. As I approached, a Wood Pigeon landed in the tree and a long shot tumbled him into the cover but unfortunately I could not find it. As I was searching, a young Squirrel darted up an Oak Tree, and then came back again to investigate me. A shot to the head dropped him and a flurry of movement had me shoot a second that as darting away through the branches. Leaving them to be picked up later, I made my way to Fathers Drive, spotting a Squirrel and Rabbit but both too far to shoot. I then disturbed a Grey that I bowled over full choke and at the report, a fat Woodie clattered over my head and I spun around and dropped it with the second barrel. Not a usual left and right! I shot a final Wood Pigeon which again came out of its tree but made the mistake of coming towards me rather than away and the second barrel brought it down. A lovely walk and nice bit of vermin control.
