pigeon controller
For those people who know me I'm a creature of habit and it amazes me when my none shooting friends ask me if I will be shooting at the weekend my stock reply is " Does the sun rise in the morning". We normally like to pre plan our shooting weekends so that we know what areas we will be searching over the weekend based on the intel received in the week. So we set out on Friday morning at 10.00 heading for the barley fields expecting to see birds down , nothing, so we checked the clover fields following Bunny Blasters sucess last weekend and found birds down feeding . We had received a call in the week concerning another clover field so we headed out to view it, it also had birds down so we confirmed with the Farmers wife that we would shoot it Saturday . We then returned to the first clover field and set up with twelve thawed birds all on cradles and straight away the birds came in . it was now 12.00 and we shot till 17.00 and picked up one hundred and twelve pigeons and had suffered three heavy rain showers in that time. We started to lay them out for a picture but we could see more rain in the distance so did a Fenland pose. Saturday morning we headed out to the pre arranged clover field and set up with twelve fresh birds from the day before, while we were setting up we could see birds coming from all directions and anticipated a good days shooting. First birds in , two down, then my phone rang, it was the farmer , he had visitors at the farm could we leave the shooting for another day !!!!!!. So we packed up and moved on. We now had no idea of where to look so we headed back to the turnip field from the week before. It had approx thirty birds down and in twenty minutes nothing joined, so we moved on the the spring rape which is nearly in flower as we drove around the fields we put a good number of birds out of the trees but none were down on the field. We watched it for thirty minutes and the birds were playing follow the leader one would drop out of the trees and the others would follow . We decide to give it a go and set up again as before , one hour later we had six birds so we packed up and decide to keep looking. During our drive to look at the turnips again we came across the farmer who normally is not to talkative but today we started to talk about the referendum and lost an hour of our shooting time. We arrived at our turnip field to find thirty down all behind a dell in the centre of the field sheltering from the very strong wind. So we walked across the field so the wind would be off our backs it was now 18.00 and we had birds coming in straight away we shot till 19.15 as we could see some terrible weather coming with the wind. the total for the day was fifty one birds for three set ups and due to the weather conditions no photograph. Paul taylor
Ha ha six birds in an hour would be a red letter day for me PC. definitely birds looking for clover round here though, never seen so many on the dairy farm I shoot on as I have lately unfortunately my last two times I could get out I've had to concentrate on the rabbits as the dog needed food, hopefully the pigeons will still be there when I get chance to get the decoys out. Hope you have better look and sunshine next weekend.

la bala
Despite the rain you had a couple of good outings PC. You got to get back on track with your presentation, that scruffy Fenland style is just not you
