kingsy18
How long would it take to change a starter motor in a van, what you think it would cost roughly in a local garage.
Gordon R
Less than 1/2 an hour.
Duckandswing
Depends on where it is. Some cars you have to remove other parts to get at the usual two fixing bolts. A van may be easier. I've only ever done a couple. One was ten minutes, the other just over an hour but I am no mechanic. As Gordon says, a proper mechanic could do it rapidly. Jason_ox
It all depends, I'm a plant mechanic by trade but I've just done a starter motor on a 2006 3 series BMW 3.0 diesel. It took 6 hours in total, had to remove the inlet manifold which I couldn't quite believe but was confirmed after talking to my mate who works on them at a main dealers. Would of cost near a grand to get it done at the dealers as well. Every manufacturers different, and every model will be different. Best to get a few quotes from independent garages! Paul223
Transit/sprinter/daily/krafter 1/2 hour ish Some of the front wheel drive vans could be longer, a lot longer
four-wheel-drive
I would say that to give you a proper answer you need to tell us the make and year also type of engine as all things can affect what should be a simple job on my 2000 Jeep cherokee 4ltr the problem was not fitting it that took only a short time it was getting one that had the correct electric connector to be able to plug it in after getting two from a uk parts firm that did not fit in the end I had to order one from the US that only took a few days and was a good price much to my surprise. la bala
I think modern vehicles are built around the engine
Hendrix's rifle
Depends what van, as said it could be half hour or it could be 4 hours. Iirc some of the vauxhall vivaro's are shocking to do. The new cactus (Renault or Citroën) have to have the engine out for an alternator... i think it's the cactus, it's one of the new ones
Lord O War
I think modern vehicles are built around the engine I've found that whatever it is that I am trying to take off is usually the part the vehicle is built around.
