I tend to think that a lot of people with a shooting truck get a bit blinkered and think that there motor is the best etc forgetting any issues occurred over the years. As said on here look for something that's had an easier life and remember if you buy anything 2nd hand then there's always the chance of issues.

I wouldn't rule out Mitsubishi if the right one came about. Good luck

The other issue is economy, Isuzu are blitzing the hilux in new vehicles because they are far cheaper to run, 40mpg versus 30 with the 3l hilux. Toyota are catching up with the latest model but their 2.5 only seems to be on the most basic versions.

The rav we have had their 2.2 150bhp engine and why they haven't used this is beyond me as its economical and powerful.

This budget as above can buy you a nightmare in the pickup market, very much look for one that's been run as a car than worked hard and abused

The Ford Ranger 2.2 160bhp is the best fuel economy, bloody impressive what the new ones are quoted as doing!... but ofcourse, everyone really wants the 200bhp 3.2. it's not had on fuel either though.

I had a 55 plate L200 for 5 years, got rid of it for a hi-lux 12 plate, ran it for 2 months then got shot of it, to agricultural and greedy on fuel. Now on a 12 plate L200, maybe I just love L200,s.

I've had 3 l200's and have driven all the pick ups on the market. The 2.2 ranger I had on demo wasn't reading any more mpg than my series 4 l200.

I think the toyotas are much better put together than the isuzus, although if you are looking second hand you won't get much toyota for your money. The main thing with a pick up is finding one that's had an easy life.

I can't fault my mitsubishis at all. Plus the super select system is class leading.

Have you seen this? Advertised in today's ST. Fiat Fullback. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/fiat/fullback

Same thing they say:

" It’s a new market for Fiat, but the company has taken a very effective shortcut as – badges apart - the Fullback is an exact copy of the Mitsubishi L200, and built on the same production line".
