I'll try that tip with the Blu-Tac on the trigger of my old HW70 pistol. I'm getting similar results to you Ditchman and I'm a newcomer to pistol shooting and so going through the same learning curve.

If the trigger is heavy then maybe something blunter than a thumb-tack!

I was going to mould the Blu-Tac around the part of the trigger that I didn't need to touch so only the part I should be touching is bare. (Blu-Tac is a sticky putty used to put posters up on walls).

The trigger can be adjusted to an extent so is not too heavy. It is just the routine I need to get consistent.

BETTER SESSION TODAY

i am at last starting to replicate my shots...and am sticking to a 5 point routine..

  1. forehand
  2. shoulder
  3. sight
  4. breathing
  5. trigger

when i deviate from this routine it always throws a flier into the bottom right quadrant.......which one of the numbers causes this , i am unsure...but at least all shots are predictable now...and i have hit the balance point where "i" dictate where the shot goes not the gun.....

i now have complete confidence in the rifle...which now leaves me to concentrate on the 5 routines....i find i have a "zone" of no more than 4 secs to place the shot where i want it...if it exceeds that 4 secs i know just before i pull the trigger it will not go where i want it.....

the trigger is now on the very lightest safe setting....i have not used the blue tack in this session on the trigger as i wanted to see first if the alterations had improved the standard

ALL THE FLIERS were the first shots of every group....

the first target was at 12 metres not 10 as i had written...

Evening gents,

I had a good ol' scoot round looking for a a flight line and few pigeons. They weren't playing ball so I zeroed the BSA Stutzen and did a bit of plinking.

I see this as a handy gun for ratty around the feeders on our shoot. Range was 30 paces and I got 10p sized groups off sticks when I did my bit.

I've had a little work done, blackening the moderator shroud and polishing the rosewood forend. Decided against a full on stock strip and polish as a few dings and dongs on the woodwork show a bit of character.

I thought a little scope ( Airmax 2-7 x 32) would be perfect as I won't be shooting anything beyond 30 yards.

I'm pleased as punch with it.

A few pics with Ditchies say so:

Your fliers are in the same place every time. Could you be snatching the trigger?

zapp ...i dont know...everything leads to that....now that im comfortable with the 5 routines...i will continue to shoot the same groups...and eventually i will sort out what is causing these predictable fliers in the bottom right quadrant.....everything tells me that it is trigger ...(or at least that hand that is the cause...either the position of my hand or the way i pull the trigger)........

i will continue to post until i have bottomed this out .........

Yep, use the pointy thing when you shoot.

If you have a light trigger, it will mean that every shot will:

a) be fired from the same point on your finger

b) when you depress the trigger, you won't be riding the blade.

If it works, you can make up something less 50 shades

Right.....i have now modified the trigger..........i found the best thing to use was a rivet that had the aluminuim shroud cut off....as the rivet shank has a round ball on the end......it is a "interference" fit so if it dont work , it can be easily removed.

i have test fired it ...and it feels very very comfortable...and i can feel all of the trigger movement...and feel straightaway i have far more control of the breakpoint , which feels much smoother........but as IANO says i can now replicate the finger placement on the trigger the same every time.....so i will see what results this produces....
