JDog
The day with Aga Man last week satisfied my desire to shoot pigeons for a few days but today I started to look for a few again. One bean stubble is in reserve for Friday when I hope to tempt Mightymariner over here, provided that the field has not been turned over or shot. The weather was perfect when I set off, a good strong wind and dry. As I clocked up forty miles I saw a few pigeons drifting across a field, then a few more and then enough to make it worth while. My intention today, possibly out of laziness, was not to set up a hide and decoy pattern but to shoot a flight line in the wind. This one seemed ideal. One change today was that I had forsaken the semi auto for my old and dilapidated Miroku 6000. I have not picked it up since my neck injury last April and it showed at first. Hiding under overhanging branches I was well hidden and as birds came across the field into the wind towards me I jumped out from my hiding place to shoot. For the first ten shots I was rewarded with one pigeon, then matters improved somewhat and I got into the swing of things. By 3:30 I had shot and picked 32 pigeons and I was just about to go back to the car for more cartridges when an enormous tractor pulling an enormous trailer full of lime entered the field. Lime spread in this way is not to be messed with so I beat a hasty retreat.

aga man
Well done for getting out J, hope the neck isn't sore this evening. Been to Bob D's today, no bean stubble there but 200 odd acres of winter rape, said he would like us to keep an eye on!

Whitebridges
Machines spreading lime must be avoided, especially when the wind is up. Good shooting ! Edited October 5, 2016 by Whitebridges
