Wilksy II
An unexpected day off tomorrow and not a pigeon to be seen! I've been looking since Sunday as I was planning a Saturday outing but due to materials at work not showing up I'm free! So frustrating, are they all in the woods?has anyone had any success using lofters and decoy them that way?
aga man
Difficult at the moment fella. You're only hope round these parts at the minute is some old stubble or some fresh wheat drillings, the pigeons are certainly turning there attention to beechmast as they do at this time of year. Starting to see them flocking up now too!

Wilksy II
Well the weather has put pay to any plans I had, the dog doesnt even want to go for a walk in this rain, another cup of tea and telly day it is!
lakeside1000
Normally this time of the year I would be out on the marshes wildfowling but with very few ducks about and only a handful of geese I have stayed on the pigeons, but with little success, I have several hundred acres of rape but only a few birds showing, just 11 on the last trip out, gamekeepers dont want us on land where pheasants are being fed, understandable, Some of the marshes have crops on, one has sugar beet which is just being lifted , but I watched it for some time yesterday with only a dozen or so pigeons showing, this area might improve as the leaves begin to rot on the surface, so worth another visit, but I dont think the rape will improve until it gets a lot colder. There are several old stubble fields available to me which are now green with new growth but again only a few birds showing and mostly very young birds which I dont shoot until the spring, My local game dealer has started removing youngsters from the older birds and only paying 10 pence for 'small birds'. As for pigeons congregating in larger flocks , they seem to be still out in ones and twos or at the most small groups of a dozen or so, If the rain hold off tomorrow I have my eye on a small stubble field next to a wood where a few are holding all day so fingers crossed it will be worth the trip, but this time of year it seems the same on all the permissions I have, just have to make the best of it and wait for the cold weather.
