Fuji Shooter
Probably stupid question of the week but I just picked up a Winchester Model 23 choked at 1/4 and 1/2. As I don't have a choke gauge handy which barrel is which or is it not that simple? Thanks
Penelope
R/H - 1/4. L/H 1/2. in general.
motty
Stick your little finger in the muzzle ends. Which ever finger gets the furthest is probably your more open choke.
Walker570
Is it double trigger ? If so, then the standard old English/British choking was left hand barrel back trigger was the tightest choke. If single trigger does it have a barrel selector ? The difference between the two at 40yrds, the bird is not going to notice the difference. Chokes vary so much, the only way you can check is to pattern both barrels on a large sheet of paper, a sheet for each barrel obviously :-) For general game shooting the chokes you have are ideal, particularly for walked up. Have fun.
Fuji Shooter
No it is a single Trigger with a selector
wymberley
As said it is more than likely that simple, but don't ignore the possibility that someone has had the barrels altered for driven game although the chances are slim. If you do make the effort to pattern it, a minimum of 6 shots from a previously fired barrel will give you a reasonable field assessment. Don't be too surprised if the 1/4 shoots IC which is no bad thing.
TDS
Whichever letter is exposed under the selector is the first barrel to be fired Failing that put some snap caps / used cartridges in the chambers , pull the trigger once and then eject This will tell you which barrel is set first Do not snap on an empty chamber as i believe the firing pins are integral with the hammers and not easily replaceable
Fuji Shooter
Cheers guys I'll get on the pattern plate the weekend. Only wanted to see how I got on with it as I may just end up moving it on being a semi auto shooter.
Gunman
You could try looking down the barrels from the muzzle and comparing the chokes to see which is heavier .
figgy
The barrels should be marked with the choke on the under side of each barrel.
