hatsanmad
Hi guys time has finally come were im in a position to get myself a aftermarket choke now what im confused with is there are obviously a few good ones out there on the market But i have narrowed it down to three possable so im looking at either the patternmaster code black goose kicks high flyer or a terror choke. So im looking for people who use these chokes for there opinions and thoughts before i make my final decission so i would really appreciate a good few opinions and which you guys prefer. Best regards hatsan
motty
What made you narrow it down to those three?
TIGHTCHOKE
Are you using the chosen choke for steel shot? What is your intended quarry?
HDAV
What's lacking in the standard choke?
hatsanmad
I narrowed it down to them three with them seeming to be the most popular ones. Yes i will be using them with steel and intended species will be for geese. The reason for investing in one over the factory choke is to tighten the pattern up with my homeloaded steel shot
figgy
What gun is it for? And the bore diameter. Just how tight a pattern and at what distance and what size shot and loads as they all have a bearing on what would be better. hatsanmad
The gun is hatsan extreme max not sure on bore diameter but i know its a rem choke. Distance would be upto 50-55yards really. I have tried diffrent methods of slitting the wads but with the larger steel shot i am struggling to pull the pattern in tight enough with out big gaps inbetween each piece of shot
motty
For 50 yard geese I would recommend buying cheap. Get a Briley XF for under £50.
tomaddy525
Why cheap for 50 yards?
hatsanmad
I have looked into them all but going off reviews i have read the ones i mentioned are the ones that seem to fit in with what i intend to use it for with my homeloaded large steel shot
6.5x55SE
The gun is hatsan extreme max /quote] Is this the 3.5" Chamber one.??? hatsanmad
Yes 3.5inch magnum and they are a remchoke I only found out after speaking to paul consitt at pro duck and goose supplies uk
motty
Not sure why I said to go cheap for 50 yard geese, but I honestly think you can't go wrong with a tight Briley. They are a good, cheap option and will be very good for long range geese and big steel shot.

figgy
So what size shot and load are you going to put through the choke? I am happy with the Carlsons Cremator Wildfowling Chokes come in a twin pack i went for mid range and long range, don't think the long range will get too much use with my current carts but good to have if i change carts. As Motty says Brierly do some good chokes, they have a Buck Gardner series and it wont be any different to what Motty is using and cheap enough to replace if it get s damaged. Old farrier
Hi To be honest stick with the choke in your gun it should give a good pattern at 30......40 yards 50 + yards is a long way to identify your quarry far better to stick to closer stuff until you are experienced Tight choke can handicap you on the closer birds Just my thoughts All the best Of

As for being able to id the bird im pretty good at that. And also i know the standard chokes pattern isnt good enough because i have pattern tested my loads

hatsanmad
No i have no pictures but at 40 yards any duck would easily fly through the pattern unfased and even with geese the chances are i would more likely clip them or break a wing instead of a straight kill. I have heard alot of good press about the pattern master and seen pics of the patterns there capable of doing

Well i took the plunge and just purchased the code black duck after speaking with paul a pro duck he reccomended trying the duck first as its a good alrounder
motty
Hmm. You ended getting the duck choke, for geese....
hatsanmad
Yes. Paul said its a good alrounder and still capable of giving good patterns at the ranges i told him im comfartable shooting to. He said the patterns from the goose choke are incredibly tight and alot of people do struggle with it. But he also said to me to try the duck and see what i think and if im not happy i can return for the goose choke. I will post my findings and thoughts on it thoughts when it arrives
