Wingman
I am thinking of turning one of my Browning Auto-5's into a dedicated pigeon hide gun and have been looking at the gun wrap sets, like the one from mossy oak or gunskinz. Quite like the look of them and have been thinking about a camo'd gun for use in the hide for a while, but wanted to get any views, comments or installation tips from the greater PW community.. One of my Auto-5's isn't used that much and I think it would breathe new life into the old girl albeit the humpback design might look a bit unusual in full camouflage! The skins are easily removed (apparently) so I can turn it back into its original slightly shabby look when required! Wymondley
Looks good. How much did that cost and where did you get it. I have a Hatsan that may benefit from something similar.

Wingman
thanks guys it has turned out well although there are a few small kinks in the finish but you wouldn't know unless I showed you. I bought the wrap from eBay it was cheap less than 25 quid and it's really good quality. all the parts are pre cut and they have a load of different patterns. came from Russia took about a week to arrive. here's a link http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/222325927115?sojTags=bu=bu&euid=c556f31c19884e7b96f1b693af54ffad&_mwBanner=1 Edited December 23, 2016 by Wingman
motty
Just out of interest, why did you do this?
Wingman
As mentioned in the first post I wanted to use the gun as a dedicated pigeon hide gun and the wood was a bit tatty. Also as I was bored one rainy afternoon ..
fortune
Apart from the fact that you wanted to do it, and you can do with it as you please, why didn't you spend the 25 quid on some cartridges in your local gun shop? Coz camoing your gun is going to make as much difference to the amount of pigeons that you shoot as if you painted it pink or blue. I bet motties gun is cammoed. motty
Only one of my 8 guns has a camouflage finish. This is certainly not because I think I will put more birds in the bag with it. The only reason I would wrap in camo, would be to protect it from salt air etc.

Fine walnut, gold inlay and engraving wont kill any more pigeons either. It's all a question of personal taste. I think the Realtree/cammo finish has a certain aesthetic quality on a knockabout gun. Paintballers, airsofters and preppers are giving cammo' a bad name.

I'm not criticizing Wingman and he can do as he pleases such as painting the gun red stripes or caravan gold or he can replace the foresight with a new foresight replicating a horse's head if it pleases him. What I am referring to is the idea that covering the gun in camo will somehow make it invisible to the pigeons coming in to decoys. We have so many barmy ideas posted on¡ here like the bloke who always cut the eyelids off of the decoys in case the incoming birds realised that the decoys all had there eyelids shut and they were all asleep. A trick that I commonly use is to put the decoys on their backs!!? This makes passing pigeons come down to see if their mates are ok or just having a lay down for fourth winks. Wingman
as said it's a knock about gun and I thought it would give me a covert invisibility shield when I am shooting... happy Christmas all

Nahh, your mistaken, I got the genuine one. Yours must be a chinese copy. Happy christmas. One of my apprentices did an amount of film wrapping. He did things like motorbike fuel tanks and stuff. he said that the film was floated on water in a tank and the item lifted up through the film which evenly planted itself on the tank or bits surface
