Geo
I am sure this must have been discussed before , but I note that there has been a recent change in the law in respect of the occupier when lending a shotgun on private land which I don't fully understand . I would like to know if it is legal for me as a shotgun certificate holder to share a gun with my 18 year old Son at a local clay ground . There is mention of getting permission in writing , but guess the fact that the land is being used as a commercial clay shoot and we are paying customers means that we already have permission. He has had a couple of lessons but not got his SGC ,and we were just planning to have a couple of roundsover Christmas to get some practice. Can we just walk round together and share a gun or will it vary from ground to ground ? We will probably be at Fennes or Essex Shooting ground at Fyfield. Thanks in advance. washerboy
Only shot two clay grounds but never been asked to produce my certificate unless buying cartridges, so how would they know I even have rights to own a gun. My lad has shot my gun on a clay ground and doesn't have his own certificate
bruno22rf
Most clay grounds have a section 11 exemption licence that allows non cert holders to shoot (normally accompanied by a cert holder) so you should be absolutely fine sharing a gun. TIGHTCHOKE
As above, you should be fine but be polite and phone ahead to check. If the ground is a good one they will appreciate your honesty and may even give a little instruction. Good luck.

Did this last week phoned and asked section 11 exemption so all legal and insured 😊 Ground asked that I made sure I signed the book and checked the person I was accompanying filled in there details correctly 👍👌 No problem with that asked how much £ they looked at his details ( under 16 ) no charge for clays on his first round 🤗😊😊 It pays to ask

And under section 11 you are required to give name address and signed declaration that you are not prohibited from having a gun license and are not under the influence of drugs etc Well in the county I'm resident in so probably best to tell them This log /register also acts as a record for application for a sgc if you later applied
bruno22rf
Funny you should mention that Old farrier - our club has a regular visitor who is banned from holding a cert after being caught a number of years back with several handguns - I was not happy about the situation (the guy's a real pain) and raised the issue with the owner who assured me that he is allowed to shoot? Maybe the rules vary from county to county🤗 I'm sure there's more on here know the rules better than me Anyway the kids don't mind sighing for a fre round of clays 😊😊😊

Surely he's a prohibited person? Depends on if he went to jail and for how long I guess.
