ips
If anyone has ever stopped a cocker from jumping up I would be highly impressed 😁 I have never been as scruffy since getting a cocker 😊 Oh and you will need lots of paper towel for the submissive peeing 👍

toontastic
Don't be in a rush to start proper training of your dog, put the time into creating a bond between you and the dog.
novice cushie shooter
I got my first cocker on the 2nd jan and shes been brilliant. No accidents in the house for 3 days now and settled at night. The jumping up is annoying me but figure that will come shortly. Shes seems very keen to learn already and is very much part of the family. Books wise i really like joe irving gundogs and their learning chain. I only had a lab before now so am constantly learning too
UKPoacher
Right from the start if the pup / dog jumps up back off two steps so the dog loses your support and say DOWN! in a loud low tone. A real ####ing tone. The dog is looking for praise or comfort so don't give it any for bad behaviour.

shropshire-jon
hi Blundy Good choice, Remember take your time, you have that on your side. one more thing when training there are now bad students only bad teachers. good luck
rimfire4969
Don't be in a rush to start proper training of your dog, put the time into creating a bond between you and the dog. You do this by repeating down or get off many, many times. You will have hours of fun and frustration, but it is the best of times and you will have a new best bubby. ips
You do this by repeating down or get off many, many times. . Lol, or like me ...give up and accept cockers want to be "on you" 😁 I am a novice but my two peneth from recent experience is this. Get the dog walking on a loose lead before anything else. Get it to sit and stay on its bed / matt when its told then wherever you are you can have some peace. Train stop to whistle before you steady it then you have a contingency when it runs in. As I say I am a novice only been training my bitch for two years and I did a lot wrong mainly by rushing and having many nearly good things rather than a few very good things and if I had my time again the above would be my initial things to train.
