You can't IMO get to the safety by just taking your sideplates off, you need the action off.

This

It is quite easy though if you're at all practical I did mine there's a rod that goes up through the end of the stock just take it out and put it somewhere safe in case you want to put it back

You have to remove the control rod /lever from within the action. For the safety to work and be manual the front actuating rod would have to be cut off. This is not a good thing because it will get lost and if you sell it the safety will inevitably have to be replaced or welded back on. The thing is there for a good reason and that is because a SxS is for walked up and driven game, Generally. When you are in the cage you have two cartridges and two targets. You go in empty and you come out empty. When you are out walking you are loaded and on safe. It is very easy to forget to put the safety back on. That’s the whole point of the auto safety. You don’t take it off until you shoulder the gun. I would not do it to a #2 because it isn’t right and you will reduce its value. Try to get into the habit of checking if it is on safety. And if you go to take the shot and the pheasant gets away without being fired at so what its his lucky day and like busses there is sure to be another along.

I agree with this, leave it as it is, the safety should always be on anyway until your about to take a shot in my opinion 👍
