Lord v
Finally got to pick up my first gun yesterday, 11 weeks after my visit! But that's another story. Gun is a Laurona Sporter and came with a set of chokes. In the case I have (as marked): 1) full × (obvious) 2) cyl (obvious) 3) ic ×××× (again...) But in the gun I have: 4) m xxx 5) modified xxx Now are the two in the gun the same? It seems they should be, but as the chokes are (seemingly) original so it would seem odd that they are marked differently. It wont make any difference to my shooting, but would be interested to know. wokkywokky
Could it be that "m" is actually "im" i.e. improved modified and the "i" is missing for some reason? If you remove these two chokes and put them end to end is there a step i.e. a size difference between the two?

The lettering was tiny tbh so easily could have misread
VicW
I suggest that you have the following: 1 is Full one star. 2 is Cylinder/No choke. 3 is 1/4 four stars. 4 & 5 are 1/2 choke three stars. The standard star markings in the UK are: One star is full, Two stars is 3/4, Three stars is 1/2, Four stars is 1/4, Cylinder/No choke can be no stars or sometimes five stars. Vic. Gunman
Are they the " American " markings ? Choke = full imp/mod = 3/4 mod = 1/2 imp/cyl = 1/
HDAV
Does it go bang?
Lord v
Does it go bang? It does go bang. And when/if I point it in the right direction things die. Ultimately on this basis I don't really care, I was just interested to know.

HDAV
It does go bang..That's the main bit! IM xx is what you might expect in a full set but possible 2 are the same xxx but one is from a different era with a different marking. 5 is usual but some guns new come with 3-5 chokes in the box Edited March 1, 2017 by HDAV
Gordon R
Agree with HDAV - you have two x 1/2 (modified choke). Stick with these two or go with IC and Mod. Very underrated guns in my opinion. Built to last.

Very underrated guns in my opinion. Built to last. I quite like the combination in the gun, I may swap it up at some point but at the moment I have no need I like it, it looks like it should be worth far more than I paid for it and despite some evidence it has been well used everything is still tight. walt1980
Easy way is to get a decent choke gauge, isn't always 100% but will def give you a good idea. Or use a set of verniers? See what the sizes are that way. Edited March 1, 2017 by walt1980
Stonepark
Only way to know is to pattern it with each choke.
Lord v
Only way to know is to pattern it with each choke. Yeah... I'm not that fussed.
JohnfromUK
Yeah... I'm not that fussed. And you are right! Unless you are an exceptional shot, improved and quarter, quarter and half - or some combination thereof will be very adequate for almost all things. Personally, I have never used my full choke on the one interchangeable gun I own. I don't shoot that well.
