oldypigeonpopper
I'm referring specifically to the wraparound Jag and wish to know if I need to cover the entire length of the Jag, leaving no exposed edges?? hello, if your mean the split thingy that you slide in cleaning patches as long as made of brass should be ok, i have a plastic one so no scratching barrels, you can use cut down paper kitchen roll as the patches like bisleys shred out and do not cover the length of the jag. beanieboy
No, the Jag I'm referring to is solid with edges along it's length to prevent the patch from sliding off.

beanieboy
Thanks for the replies anyway OPP, I might just just use a well worn brass brush and wrap the patch around it.
Blackpowder
I have never found the match of jag to cleaning patches very satisfactory, even tried the old fashioned tow once in the day. I find that an old bronze brush with a double wrap of kitchen roll does the job for me. Blackpowder
beanieboy
Beginning to think you're right BP.... I've a wee well worn brass brush that'll suit fine.
Wasabi
I just scrunch up half a sheet of blue roll and push it down the barrel with the rod. I scrub the bore first with wd40 and a bronze brush.
wisdom
Same as Wasabi for me but I use liege spray Edited March 19, 2017 by wisdom
JohnfromUK
The brass of the jag is much softer than the steel of the barrels, so a contact won't cause damage. Like others, I use scrumpled up paper, in my case 2 sheets of loo paper, and push it through with the rod.
panoma1
After scrubbing the bores with a phosphor bronze brush and gun oil/cleaner, use a sheet of kitchen roll folded in half then lengthway into three, wrap around jag and push through the bores in turn then refold and push through again until it emerges clean....if your feeling flush, you can use another sheet! lol! panoma1
Rifle or shotgun? Good question! I was assuming shotgun (12g)
beanieboy
Sorry, should have specified, it's for a .223.
Andy RV
In that case then it's got to be better to cover all of it! You might find a jag with a point on the end easier to use, such as the pro shot ones.
