30-6
Looking to get a .223 in cz 527 or tikka hunter. Always liked the look of a fluted barrel. Is stainless worth getting ?

Not saying it WILL, but can be problematic if using a lamp.
activeviii
saves the smallest amount of weight. helps cool barrel a tiny bit. helps empty your wallet a lot. looks cool, well, i think is does. Tikka all the way.
zx10mike
never worth it on a factory barrel imo, tikka varmint are not heavy.i'm just getting my first fluted custom barrel on a tikka because its heavier profiled and 26"
bruno22rf
Fluting increases the surface area of the barrel as well as reducing the weight - the increased surface area makes the barrel more rigid.
Walker570
No difference that you will notice. As said, a term I hate, cool, yes it might just do that a bit but only if you are blatting dozens of rounds down range. I have a 'sculpted' barrel on my wildcat and I ok'd it just because it looked different and is different inside and out. Makes not a jot of difference to the fox who had a 100gr Barnes TTSX up it's right nostril this week If it is costing more money, then have a plain one and put the extra into ammunition. bruno22rf
fister - according to many sources that I have read there is a greater heat loss with a fluted barrel which prevents warping but I am happy to stand corrected, but doesn't much of the strength of your cars panels come from the curves and bends in the metal? armourer103
Very high tech, just put some flutes in an empty coke can using your fingers and thumbs, then try crushing it in your hand,
grrclark
Seriously, I shouldn't have even spoken, I will let you guys get on with this matter without me, have fun Regrettably shooting seems to be riddled with pseudo physics (why else could aftermarket choke manufacturers make money?) and although it really does deserve to be corrected it is sometimes like swimming against the tide. bruno22rf
Me too - although I still fail to see where fluting a barrel introduces any variables - sure the harmonics might be entertaining but so long as they remain consistent then fluting cannot effect accuracy adversely surely, but the additional cooling must be beneficial?
