bruno22rf
Driving over towards Olney earlier this week when a sudden bang from under the Car forces me to stop and check that nothing has fallen off the old Jalopy ( and also the "Boss" made me) so I pulled by the side of the Road and did my best to look concerned and intelligent as I scanned the area around the Car. After having spent what I considered enough time looking to keep "her" happy I was about to regain my rightful position when a youngish chap appeared from an over grown Gateway and looked my way. I hastily nodded and exchanged the obligatory "alright". "NO" - he spat out as he walked towards me. My immediate thought was to get in the Car quick in the fear that I may have just ran over his Barbie's favourite Jeep but the explanation was far more interesting ******* Rabbits - eating my plants faster than I can put them in the ground" Turns out that the chap had invested money in a piece of land and was trying to mimic the "Good Life" by growing all his own food but Rabbits were destroying his best efforts. A quick peek over the Gate revealed about 30 or 40 Acres and several Rabbits were feeding even though it was near midday. A few minutes chatting and I'm in!!! Come as often as I like and use whatever I want as long as the Rabbits get gone - his land is surrounded by fields so no problems with neighbours and I might take the Air Arms carbine till they begin to wise up then finish the job with the RF - whichever way it's happy days ahead

Evilv
A great tale there Bruno. Excellent luck that. It's nice when it happens. I had a stroke of luck like that when I was helping a mate with some lambing in 2016. He rents 88 acres from an old guy of 89 who has retired. I got in happily shooting jackdaws and the odd pigeon and come October last, he rang me up and said, 'Come up here and shoot some pheasants. They are all over my chicken feed.' 'How many do you want shot? says I.' 'Oh - I don't know. Half a dozen? Come every week and take some.' I went twice some weeks in the winter and had a total of 36 pheasants. My only problem is that he is very old and is trying to sell the farm. I hope he lives to a 110.
wabbitbosher
I'm still hanging in there to find out what the bang was
TIGHTCHOKE
Yes, indeed, what was the cause of the bang which made you stop in exactly the right place at the right time?
bruno22rf
Never found out what caused the bang but then I had travelled a few hundred yards before finding somewhere safe to stop - the road has a couple of blind corners( think it's the B565) where this happened. A couple of weeks later I had to replace all of the power steering pipes due to a constant leak so maybe a mounting rubber or something had fallen off?. Permission has turned out to be very problematic because the Rabbits are coming from a field next door (you can see 20 or 30 just sitting out in the open)but ,as yet, I don't have permission to shoot them - pretty sure that my .22lr using subs will thin them out considerably but the crop has been virtually destroyed so it seems there are hundreds on the farm. TIGHTCHOKE....do I detect an air of disbelief in your post? - happy to pm you the exact location and the owners mobile number if you like - even send you a copy of the repair bill to my car.
