walshie
I used to have one as a kid. I'd say it's at least 30 years old.

Mice!
There are some in my old fellas shed, there Mitchells we used as kids just not sure which models. He'd had them years tho I know that so possibly 30 plus years
walshie
This got me thinking so I investigated further. Technically any Mitchell reel is nearly 30 years old as they stopped manufacturing them under their own name in 1989. The 2250 RD was made from 1983 to 1985. Tim Kelly
Early eighties. Remember first seeing them in the local tackle shop and being blown away by the Star Wars/ Delorean/ C5/ Blakes 7, eighties styling.
Dunkield
The 300 was, and always will be the classic Mitchell series
station
I haven't fished since I was a 15 year old but I remember these. I bought my best mates Daiwa off him as he got a Mitchell and that would be mid 80's The only bad about his was it did not have a skirted spool so line would get below it - much to his annoyance ! Also remember my first pellet gun - The Gat

Dunkield
But were never a patch on Abu's Cardinal 55. I bought one of those in a garage sale when I went through a spell of buying old coarse fishing tackle. Years later I ebay'd the lot, the ABU went for about 10 times what i paid for it! I still use a pair of French made 300's for pike fishing (when I actually go) and have the smaller 308 for my lightweight spinning outfit, they are great simple reels. Tim Kelly
But were never a patch on Abu's Cardinal 55. No, the cardinals were the reels I always wanted, but they were way more expensive than the Mitchells.
Penelope
And then along came the mighty Shimano! The price of top end carp reels is crazy now. No, the cardinals were the reels I always wanted, but they were way more expensive than the Mitchells.

Dunkield
Now they were reels. There was something about the way used to lay the line on the spool, and that bail arm
washerboy
My newest reel is a Diawa ninja Great reel for £45 , hopefully will last twenty years. My shamano gave up after 3 years and it was double the price
