pigeon controller
When I was a mere strip of a lad, pre tash. I used to work on a local farm in the holidays and drive the tractors. I was looking at a modern tractor and talking to the farmer ( under Thirty) and I said that the tractor was grey a and you started it by putting the gear lever in a certain position and it would crank. Can the PW massive educate me if this was right or am I loosing it!!!!!!!

You are spot on, you used the gear lever as a way of starting them in the start position, they also would run on petrol + tvo fuel, cracking little tractor in there day, I've spent many happy day working the hay fields with one, that seems such a long time ago now. 39TDS
T20, still got one. Switch for gear lever is broken so use a starting handle instead.

You're a proper farmer improvise and overcome, what I found funny was running the engine upto temperature before switching over at the fuel bowl to tvo then reverse the process before stopping. ferguson_tom
T20, still got one. Switch for gear lever is broken so use a starting handle instead. I replaced two of the starter switches in about 5 years so gave up and got hold of a big contactor key switch which is normally used to start stand by generators and it's working a treat.
