Changes impact on zero

Recommended Posts

Just curious,

When changing powder charge when adjusting a load, would you expect this to have much of an impact on zero at 100yds? Or might it just tighen or open up the grouping?

Same question but in regard to seating depth?

I imagine the different would be minimal?

Thanks

Lloyd

You would have to try it yourself. When I reloaded my .243, I found that .3 to .5 of a grain made no difference to accuracy. But when I reloaded my .204 it altered zero slightly, and more so with my 22 Hornet. Bullet depths remained the same for all calibres so I can't comment on that.

steve when you are doing load development do you only go down by .5 of grain? once you have settled on a load. i have been told to go .5 up through ie 32 - 35 g charge.then when the tightest group appears go down .10 ie 32.5 32.4 32.3. i am only asking as i dont want to be wasting too many rounds.

developed a good round for my 243 but am considering trying something different for foxes

When I do a development load, I start with the min grain and then do a few between min -max. ie if the min' is 36 and the max' is 38, I'll try a few at 37. Not rocket science I know, but it seems to work for me. I've never gone .2 /.3/ .4 etc for the .243. I usually find that the min' weight works well in my rifle.

All my ammunition is 100gr, but I am about to try and develop some with 55gr and 70gr.
