Wingman
Afternoon gents I was fiddling about with my old side by side this afternoon after putting it away last weekend without a proper cleaning. I had some builders wipes on the table and thought they might me worth a try, so wrapped one around a wool mop and ran it through the bore. I was amazed it shifted all the muck and the bore sparkled like a mirror. So just thought I would share in case anyone wants to try them out. Cheap as chips in screwfix! Gordon R
I made a few litres of Ed's Red a couple of months ago, but these seem like a very cheap alternative and less messy. Thanks for the heads up.
Wingman
Eds red is indeed excellent stuff and no way would these come close but they maybe worth throwing a tub in my car to keep around as a quick option after shooting... figgy
Be careful they're a de greasant so will strip of all the oils leaving your guns free to rust. Great for cleaning but rub an oily rag over the metal and down the bores after using to protect it. I'd stick with edd red or cleanzoil on some Napier super clean. Billy there are many brands of the same type of wipes from any diy or builders merchants. Been using them for over a decade for various cleaning tasks. impala59
Probably a good starting point product when de-greasing prior to blueing or other finish before the expensive de-greaser solvents
Wingman
Definitely need to oil the bore with a mop afterwards..
evolution380
May give this a try, when cleaning the other night i found myself using two lots of napier ultra clean. May use this first and then use one lot of ultra clean prior to oiling. Saves me wasting the Napier stuff Edited August 16, 2017 by evolution380

I just push another rod with a mop covered with toilet roll to clean it out after. Lasts a long time and cleans great.
