First of many (I hope)

I have been shooting fox's on a couple of farms that I picked up a year or maybe two ago. I've had 23 in that time their and while not great, the two farmers are happy!

Another chap has been doing the Deer before I started shooting there, and I haven't taken any in those two years on those farms. One of the farmers phoned while I was in Scotland and asked if I'd take the Deer on as there were too many about and the other chap hadn't been seen.

Stupid to say no! Showed willing yesterday with a recky although I know the ground well by now, and said I'd have a mooch in the morning.

Got there about 6.00 am and there were already 4 in the field in front of his house, 3 does and a buck. wind was right and distance was about 120yds but no backdrop.

I decided to walk back up to the track along past a couple of houses, down the road and up through a wood off the road, I knew the wind was wrong but I thought I'd give it a go. As I was nearing the top of the wood and looking out to the field I realised that I had been clocked by the Doe so froze for about three mins, she was having none and was very skittish and ran a few yards luckily putting the buck up who I thought had gone, but in truth was laid down out of sight in the long grass. Rifle on post and a shot at about 80yds.

Cheers lads, yes the ground holds quite a few. There were 3 does in the field with him, and a doe and 2 kids/fawns in the field alongside, 2 fields below there was a doe and another in the top part of the plantation. That is what I saw this morning, so I wonder how many I didn't see? should be busy later in the year  He was damn heavy to lug back as well, he was in good nick

Mike I was going to put it up on fox club, but then it's not a fox, and thought I might get a clip around my ear with a handbag.

Nice deer ,I see you as said there was another stalker doing the deer there I hope you let him know you were going there and did not stand on his toes as some one could get shot .I know when I go out with my mate we make sure that we are the only ones who shoot there as two shooters on the same bit of ground is very dangerous and he's got the permission as well first !

With the greatest of respect, the other bloke hasn't been seen for two years and obviously hasn't been doing his job. I haven't a contact number for him, The Farmer asked me to take the deer on, and as said earlier if you are given stalking you don't turn it down. The farmer knew I was going out. and the most important thing is, that you never fire unless you know where the bullet is going to end up after a pass through ie in the dirt behind the deer. (hilly farm) Basic shooting safety. So knowing how safe a gun I like to think I am, no-one is going to get hurt. Hope that doesn't sound too big headed but I know the ground I'm shooting on.

with the greatest of respect to you go carful pinching other people's shooting ground from those that are more experienced than yourself !! Let's hope you can manage the deer .

Pinching? Unsure how he pinched it when asked to do it by the farmer! He took what was offered and rightly so!

Good shooting and good luck with the rest!

Douburr, bud. I never said it was my first piece I do deer management on, I have another six farms local to me I keep the deer numbers managed. So where you get the idea that I am inexperienced I don't know. Life is to short to have aggro on a board and you're entitled to your own opinion, so atb and happy shooting.

Maybe if the shooter had been doing his job the farmer wouldn't ask someone else in the first place, tough **** in my opinion.

Yet another problem with the shooting community. Individuals claiming and hoarding thousands of acres then crying if someone else gets a taste.
